Placerville was the second largest city in California (Behind only San Francisco) during the Gold Rush. The Pony Express ran through this area, and the trail behind our house was actually part of it! The home is located in the Smith Flat area of Apple Hill just outside of Placerville. We are walking distance to The Smith Flat House Restaurant, The El Dorado Hiking Trail, and Starfield Winery. We're also within a 15 minute drive to all local attractions, wineries, farms, and golf. The perfect location for "Home Base" when visiting the Apple Hill area. Full of wineries, hiking, mountain biking, apple picking, gold rush history, and so much more! We are about 50 miles west of Sacramento on the way East to South Lake Tahoe. Hwy 50 runs through the Apple Hill area, with many small towns to stop in with activities for all ages and interests. We recommend bringing a car with you as there aren't many taxies or Ubers in the area. About a 45 minute drive to South Lake Tahoe, perfect pit stop on the way up, or a great place to stay.
