East of the Sun is a fully-restored ca. 1890 Victorian (3 en-suites) with a large screen porch and private, 12' round plunge pool. Our place is ideally suited for 3 couples or families with older children. We welcome younger children as long as parents confirm they're okay with 3 floors/2 sets of stairs, antiques, and a pool. We have a strict limit of 6 guests. The property offers ample gathering spaces: front porch; living room; chef-grade kitchen; large screen porch; and a large and lushly-landscaped courtyard-style backyard with plunge pool, outdoor shower, and grill. All 3 bedrooms have their own en-suite bathrooms. There is a Guest Cottage on our property, but per the Town's zoning ordinance, it is not available for short-term rental. We (Cynthia & Tucker) are the only individuals permitted to occupy it. Rest assured, though, that we're there only a night or two out of any given week and are committed to ensuring your privacy. We won't be hanging out on the screen porch or by the plunge pool so that you can fully enjoy the property with your guests. 2. We have strict limits on the number of guests we accommodate at East of the Sun. We do not allow any parties--meaning, you are not permitted to entertain anyone not included in your 6-member group anywhere on our property. This restriction is due both to concerns about added wear and tear to our home, which is filled with antiques and other family heirlooms, and also to concerns about the liability risk for us in having individuals we do not know (and have no contract with) on our property. We strictly enforce this restriction, largely due to our tightknit group of neighbors and friends who look out for East of the Sun and promptly alert us if they notice more people coming and going than we allow. NEW FOR 2022: We're now able to host long weekends (3 night minimum), starting the Monday following Labor Day and up to the Saturday leading into the week encompassing Thanksgiving. During the summer, we only offer Saturday check-ins and a 7-nights minimum. We're always available via our mobiles (text or call) and will welcome you to East of the Sun upon or shortly after your arrival if at all possible. If we’re not able to welcome you in person, you’ll have easy access via a 4-digit front and side door code we’ll have worked out with you in advance. East of the Sun is located 4 blocks from the beach on a lovely avenue that boasts a large number of thoughtfully-restored Victorians. It's just 1 block off Cape Charles's (main) Mason Avenue, making it easy to pop over to the coffee spots, cafes, and shops. If you haven't been to Cape Charles, you're in for a treat! It's an incredibly walkable and friendly town. Many locals and visitors get around via golf carts, which you can easily rent if that's your favored mode of transport. We love to walk to the beach to take in all the great architecture and have a beach wagon to help transport beach chairs and towels (which we provide) and cooler (which you’ll need to bring). In the summer months, the heat can be intense at the beach, which offers no shade. For that reason, we strongly recommend that you bring your own shade to the beach—ideally a tent or awning, as umbrellas can be dangerous if the winds are strong and/or gusting. Of course, you’ll find plenty of shade at our plunge pool, as we have a lovely shade sail installed there. We are huge fans of the Shibumi Shade, which is made by a small company in North Carolina. Be sure to order well in advance, because they’re often in a backlog situation.
