The romance, splendour and variety of landscapes to be found in Galloway lies at the door of The Old Servants’ Hall. For couples or individual explorers (and dog), this beautifully restored, cosy apartment is an ideal retreat for escaping the rat race. A restful and luxurious base from which to reach the coast, rolling hills, forest and mountains. You may be tempted to stay indoors, curl up in front of the wood burning stove, and explore the well stocked bookshelves. Servants not included. The space Forming part of the ground floor in the west wing of Dunragit House, a beautiful Grade B listed former mansion house dating from the late 17th century, you may also be tempted to stay indoors, curl up in front of the wood burning stove, and explore the well stocked bookshelves. Warm and cosy, The Old Servants’ Hall is beautifully decorated throughout with stripped wood floors, antique Turkish rugs, and an eclectic mix of mid-20th century and antique furniture. To the right of the hall is the east facing sitting room, flooded with direct morning sunshine (subject to weather!) with a view over the courtyard. The room has a wood burning stove, a fine Georgian table for dining, and a collection of original paintings and prints. The log burning stove is a cosy feature of the living room, in addition to full central heating. With our compliments, we provide a free first night starter pack of logs, kindling and eco firelighters. We also offer additional bags of logs to purchase. Off the hall is the well- equipped kitchen featuring a small breakfast table (as well as a Sheila pulley rack and servants’ bell box). Opposite is the wood panelled bathroom (accessed down two steps with brass handrail). To the west side is the bedroom. The bed is sumptuous, with White Company Egyptian Cotton bed linen, plus wardrobe and cupboard storage. At the end of the hall is a designated work area with mid-century desk, light and map. Another door leads to the cloakroom (and dog room as required). A further door reveals the trunk room which houses items ranging from the boring (broom, ironing board, mop etc.) to the useful (including picnic basket, rugs, fan, dog basket). Here too are found additional recycling bins and laundry basket. An eclectic library of books, old and new, are to be found throughout, along with a constantly changing gallery of paintings, some of which are for sale. The Old Servants’ Hall aims to be as eco friendly as possible; as well as vintage furnishings, recycled remnants of the 18th century panelling and materials from the upper apartments were incorporated in its restoration. Environmentally friendly Little Greene distemper paints adorn the walls, and we favour eco cleaning products. Recycling bins are helpfully labelled! Guests will receive directions to a private entrance in the walled courtyard to the rear of the House. TOSH is located in the rear courtyard of Dunragit House, access and car space is in the courtyard, through a stone archway and parking is for one car (for high top vans please contact us in advance of booking) A parking space adjacent to the door provides easy unloading. A key safe box allows for easy entry.
