Carbondale Pool House - Sauna, Hot Tub, Dogs OK

Rated in “Top 1%” by Airbnb, the Pool House is a separate cottage surrounded by gardens and swimming pool, with retro "Danish Modern" furniture, a gourmet kitchen and plush beds. We have recently added a Finnish Sauna and Japanese Ofuro Soaking Tub. We accept well behaved dogs for a fee of $35 a night. We allow only guests and friends of the Pool House on the grounds, gardens or pool. Hosts are Jane, anthropologist and D. a retired photojournalist for the New York Times. The space ENJOY FINNISH SAUNA AND JAPANESE OFURO 2 PERSON SOAKING TUB - DOGS ARE WELCOME The Pool House has a 50,000 gallon in-ground, unheated, swimming pool open year round with a Finnish sauna and a Japanese Ofuro soaking tub. There is an extensive herb, vegetable, and flower gardens which the guests are encouraged to use, a fire pit, a charcoal grill, and a gas grill for outdoor grilling. Equivalent in size to several hotel rooms there is a master bedroom with a king-size bed, kitchen, sitting area, 2 workspaces with desks. The upstairs has a queen-size futon couch and a twin-size air mattress, a 55" tv and space for family board games. There are two high speed wifi routers positioned at either end of the building. Well mannered dogs are welcome for a fee of $35 per night. We welcome children, with a high chair and gate for the bottom of the stairs for young children. Please note that there is no barrier at the top of the stairs and while the porch is fenced and gated, there is no fence around the pool, so young children should be closely supervised. We ask that guests let us know the ages of their children to better anticipate their needs. The Pool House is inspected annually by City Neighborhood Services and the Carbondale Fire Department for health and safety. It passed all of the inspections and has been issued Carbondale Vacation Rental License No. VRU-20-06. Carbondale requires vacation rentals to be sited on the property of the resident homeowner. Guest access Guests have access to the entire Pool House with keyless entry. The kitchen is stocked with herbs, condiments, oils, and other cooking essentials. A full set of tri-ply stainless cookware, baking dishes, and kitchen tools are provided. The pool and extensive gardens are open to guests to enjoy...take a dip and pick some vegetables and herbs for lunch. There is a table and 6 comfy chairs for al fresco dining in the garden. We provide Aveda Rosemary Mint shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in dispensers in the shower and Molton Brown Black Peppercorn hand wash and lotion in the bathroom basin. Other things to note The Pool House is licensed by the State of Illinois and Carbondale. Illinois License HM-15747. Carbondale license VRU 2021-027 A short drive west on Illinois 13 (Main Street) takes you to Murdale with a marvelous International Grocery, the Neighborhood Coop (natural foods), a green grocer, and, in the adjoining West Town Mall, the 43-year old Saturday morning Farmers' Market. The mall area with big box stores is equally close on Illinois 13 East (Walnut St.). A winter farmers market is held on Saturdays in the High School on E. Walnut Street. The Shawnee Hills lie just south of town. It has many hiking trails through stunning rock formations strewn with early spring wildflowers, the Shawnee Wine Trail, and fruit and vegetable farms and farmsteads. There are several breweries in the area, including the unique (and famous) farmhouse Scratch Brewery.
