The Dragonfly Cottage is nestled in beautiful Fort Morgan with stunning views of Mobile Bay & just a short 5 min walk to the beach! Escape your worries and relax in this newly renovated 2+bed/1 bath home. This charming house is perfect after a day in the sun! Fort Morgan is a truly special location, boasting clear waters, white sand beaches, Civil War Historic site, Mobile Bay Ferry to Dauphin Island, a marina, two amazing golf courses, Bon Secour Nature Preserve and five restaurants. Start your vacation as soon as you arrive with a keyless entry for quick & easy check-in, drop your bags in the open living room then walk back out on the porch for the bay view overlooking the Navy Cove Oyster beds! The oysters harvested practically in the front yard are served right down the road at the Sassy Bass Grill, talk about fresh & local! Since you're on the long, wide front porch why don't you grab a book and relax on the suspended bed? Or grab a drink and sit in one of the chairs? There is also a large back deck off the king bedroom with a table for open air dining. Back inside the Dragonfly Cottage you'll find an updated kitchen with full size stainless steel appliances stocked with everything from cookware & utensils to an ice maker & blender. Enjoy a delicious meal after beachin' it all day (the beach is roughly a five min walk away, or you can rent a golf cart for your stay) at the four seat high top table, the two stools at the peninsula or at the outside back table we already mentioned. Too pooped to cook? Head down to Tacky Jack's or the Sassy Bass Grill for breakfast, lunch or dinner! Or try our newest restaurant on the island, the Sassy Bass Cookout Tiki Bar for evening dining. There is also a charcoal grill downstairs if you feel like grilling, just remember to bring your charcoal and no grilling on the porch or deck. No matter how you spent your day, whether it was exploring the Historic Fort Morgan Civil War Site, fishing off the new pier, discovering the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge or splashing it up at Waterville you can catch up online with the high-speed internet, stream your favorite movies (bring your passwords) or watch the expanded cable channels on the 64" Samsung smart tv in the living room or one of the two tv's in the bedrooms. If you must work (which we really hope you don't have too!) there is a table in the closet with a comfy desk chair that is easily set up in the king bedroom. Ready for bed? Head to the king bedroom then you can enjoy coffee on the peaceful adjacent back deck. You can even stream a late night movie on the 40" Vizio tv. Or you & the kids can relax in the queen bedroom with the attached bunk bed room (there is a curtain separating the two spaces). From the queen bed you can watch the 32" Roku tv and the kids can utilize the dvd player on their side of the curtain. Did someone get dirty & you need to do some laundry? use the full size stacked washer/dryer in the bathroom. Kids are grimy? Throw them in the bath tub or shower. There's even an outdoor shower to rinse all the sand off before you get upstairs. Does your furbaby need a vacation too? 2 small/medium sized dogs up to 45 pounds are welcome! Please make sure you bring poop bags, and whatever makes your dog comfortable. If your dog is an excessive shedder please bring a blanket or sheet to cover the pink couch and you must crate your dogs when you're not home and there is one large crate in the house you are welcome to use. The beaches of Fort Morgan are pet friendly but please be respectful and pick up the poop each time so we don't lose this amazing place to take our dogs! We provide the indoor linens (sheets, bath towels, hand towels, etc) so start packing your beach towels and book today! There is a keyless entry lock on the front door. Please note there is one flight of stairs into the Dragonfly Cottage so unfortunately this might not be a good fit for guests with physical limitations. You will not have access to the space under the house and on Monday nights there may be one guest staying downstairs. Totally separate access/space. I do have people available to be on site if needed. Short, 5 min walk to the beach down a flat paved road. The area directly surrounding the house is a small quiet neighborhood with Bay views all around. Mostly full-time residents, with a few vacation rentals. Lots of people walk the neighborhood because there's very little traffic. At the end of the street (north of the house) there is a pond where there has been an alligator hanging out sometimes. Leave him alone & he'll leave you alone, just be aware he may be there. Car is recommended to get around, but there are golf cart rentals that will deliver to the house to get to the beach if you prefer not to walk the 5 min to the water. Many people bicycle on the island but be very careful on Fort Morgan Road/Hwy 180, narrow /no shoulder, traffic at fairly high speeds. Parking for 2 vehicles on site, to the right of the orange stakes on the stones. OVERVIEW & KEY DETAILS: House sleeps 6 (or 5+1, 4+2...but never more than 6 total) One king bed/one queen bed with attached bunk bed room separated by a curtain (no door) 1 full bathroom with a shower over the tub & full size washer/dryer Off street parking for 2 cars Fully equipped kitchen/ indoor dining seating for 6/charcoal grill outside RESTRICTIONS: (no one wants them, but we have to have them!) Please purchase traveler's insurance as you find necessary. While we are delighted to welcome you into our home at a fraction of a hotel stay, there are some hotel features we don't offer. We'll get you started with these amenities: 2 rolls of toilet paper, 1 roll paper towels, 1 use liquid dish soap, 1 use dishwasher soap, 1 use laundry detergent. All bath, bed, and kitchen linens are provided. Please bring beach towels for outdoor use. Our towels do not like sand ;) You need to bring any personal items you might need during your stay such as, but not limited to: any food and drinks, coffee filters/coffee, extra paper towels, toilet paper, napkins, ziploc bags, aluminum foil, condiments, phone chargers, etc. Due to the high humidity and constant use of air conditioning inside the home, leaving the doors and windows open may cause the HVAC system to freeze over and cause water damage to the walls and ceilings with condensation build-up. We would hate to have to charge you for these damages. Also, the Gulf Shores of Alabama is home to many insects. While the house is maintained monthly by a professional pest control service, you may still come across these critters during your stay with us. But please do not be alarmed, it's completely normal. You can help minimize your exposure to these bugs (and keep the air-conditioning inside) by keeping all external doors closed at all times. The house has a grinder pump it is very important that no one puts any of the following in the sink/shower drains or the toilet: "Flushable" wipes of any kind (even if the say "flushable" they are Not!) Sand Baby diapers Feminine and personal hygiene products Paper towels Cleaning rags Cigarette butts Plastic objects Grease, oil or wax Flammable, explosive, toxic or poisonous liquids, solids or gases Corrosive or acidic materials There is a box on the back of the house with a Red Light on top. If that light is red for more than 15 min please call me Immediately. Whew! This sounds like a lot of restrictions but it all boils down to Act Like Adults please! We really want you to enjoy your stay, your next stay with us and the guests that come after you. Thank you in advance for being responsible & considerate to our property.
