Description
Slow down and unwind at this unique and tranquil getaway. Once a vineyard workers cottage, many years ago, it is now fully restored to comfortably welcome four guests. The cottage flanks the vines with an uninterrupted view over our organic vineyard towards the estuary on the horizon. Relax on the terrace and take in its generous views over the landscape, take a dip in your own private pool, open late May-Sept, or stroll through the vines and woodlands that are both equally abundant in the area. The space The whole house has been completely restored with an open plan kitchen, dining and lounge area on the top floor which also includes a cosy stove and fireplace. On the lower floor are two generous bedrooms, both with en suite toilet and shower. One bedroom had a large round bathtub too. These bedrooms can be set up as two doubles or one double and one with two singles. Outside, we have built a new terrace with a swimming pool nestled neatly along the terrace walls, ensuring privacy, peace and quiet. On the terrace we have a bbq and seating/sunbathing area and there is an outdoor firepit available to visitors too. We don't charge for cleaning the house at the end of your stay, but we do expect the property to be left as you found it, otherwise there will be a cleaning fee of 100 euros. The surrounding area: We are within easy driving distance (40-50 mins) of Bordeaux, St Emillion, and the beautiful Gironde. The open sea is a bit further at approximately 1hr 15mins to Royan, and similar to Arcachon and Lacanau. The car ferry crosses from Blaye to the Medoc regularly every day. Soulac-sur-Mer is a lovely seaside town worth a visit on the northern tip, just across the mouth of the estuary from Royan. We are available for any requests, and are very happy to give recommendations for restaurants and attractions in the area. We can also arrange wine tastings and possibly chateau visits depending on the time of year (for instance it’s not so easy to organise these during harvest in late Sept/Oct). Bordeaux airport is 55km away, taking between 50 and 60 minutes to drive (except in rush hour). A train service to Bordeaux centre is accessible at St-André-de-Cubzac which is a 25 minute drive if you’d rather avoid the motor way traffic (the motorway begins at St-André-de-Cubzac). A car is definitely a bonus in the area (we have an electrical car charging point at the vineyard) to experience what the region has to offer but Blaye is about a 1 hour 20 min walk or could be cycled in 30 minutes, give or take. There is an E. Leclerc supermarket and a Lidl just a little further up the road on the main road into Blaye. We don't charge for cleaning the house at the end of your stay, but we do expect the property to be left as you found it, otherwise there will be a cleaning fee of 100 euros. There are stone steps up to the cottage front door which are a little uneven. However, the house can be accessed by various different doors during a stay there. The pool is 2m x 8m and is suitable for a few laps as well as some summer fun! We have a fire pit also available for use in the garden. Lastly, sheets and towels are all included for guests at the cottage. Guest access Guests can use all of the house and its surrounding area. Other things to note The house is situated on our working vineyard, called Château Puynard. We have another similarly sized vineyard 5 minutes away (or about an hours walk on the quieter roads) called Château Magdeleine Bouhou with a small distillery attached, named Two Origins Distillery. We are currently making Whiskey and Gin there. Tastings can be arranged there - just let us know!
