Known for his work on the History Channel, Disney+, and at major public events, Dustin creates both live sculpture performances and permanent art installations - many of which can be found throughout Raven’s Retreat and along the wellness trail tucked within the nature preserve. This hive is viewable out of a large window on the south side of the building. These honey bees are NOT aggressive, and their space is always respected. Domestic animal friends/pets cannot be accommodated. Domestic animals have killed wildlife living within the nature preserve many times in the past. You may see senior dog Peanut somewhere around the property during your stay. Peanut is a 15-year-old-25-pound dog. He is very friendly with humans but does not do well with other domestic animals. This is the second reason domestic animals are not allowed on the property. For art enthusiasts, the SculptDecor Studio, run by sculptor Dustin Weatherby, is on the 58-acres closest to the Sculptor's Art Lodge located at the bottom of the driveway. Dustin specializes in animatronics, steel sculptures, wood carvings, and mixed media sculptures. In 2025, he started offering live art performances and experience packages for guests. Feel free to stop by the studio and say hello. The host’s home is on the same 58-acre property. Although the home cannot be seen from the Art Lodge or Tiny Bungalows, the hosts are often nearby to assist you if needed. The decorative tiling to your left when you enter the front door of the Bungalow is designed to represent fungal species that grow on the property. Large windows allow you to connect with the outdoors, with the option to close the curtains for added privacy or to darken the space. Leaving the curtains open, you can look at the stars at night from the comfort of indoors. The windows are screened to bring in the Appalachian air while keeping insects out. Raven’s Retreat is a beautiful, 58-acre property located in the Hocking Hills, 2 miles east of Laurelville, Oh. With 2 separate 1/2-mile-long driveways - one to access the top of the ridge and one to go down in the valley - this land has remained mostly untouched. The land was purchased due to its resemblance to the deep woods of West Virginia, home to Raven’s mother, Lisa Mahaney. The property is deeply protected and cared for in its natural state. It contains 4 creeks, hiking trails, a pond, and the top of a ridge. There are several endangered species including whippoorwills and two lined salamanders that reside at Raven’s Retreat. Wildlife is abundant due to keeping this property as wild as possible. While no hunting or fishing is allowed, wildlife viewing stations have been setup for guests to observe the creatures. Birdwatching is abundant here, and local environmental specialists are being engaged to help create a thriving, healthy place for many types of wildlife. Wellness trails have low human traffic. Feel free to explore them and challenge yourself. There is over a mile of hiking trails on the nature preserve. The elevation change from the top of the ridge to the deepest part of the creek bed is over 220ft. If you plan to hike the trails, please keep strong scents such as perfumes to a minimum. This is often overlooked, but it can be confusing and disturb the wildlife. Natural springs and water sources are respected and protected here. No hunting, fishing, or swimming is allowed on the property. Raven’s Retreat Hocking Hills is a wildlife release site for orphaned and rehabilitated animals that have lost their families and been injured due to habitat loss and human encroachment. Always stay on the trails while on the nature preserve and practice leave no trace ethics. Guest access Guests have access to hiking all of the trails within our 58 acres. No fishing, swimming, or hunting within our nature preserve at Raven's Retreat Hocking Hills. While you are here, feel completely welcome and free to explore around the property while doing your best to leave the smallest footprint possible. The Whippoorwill birds here lay eggs on the ground without a nest so please watch your steps on the ground. You must always stay on the trails. Other things to note There is a tree near the Bungalow containing honey bees. If you are allergic to bees, you can visit when the weather is cold and the bees are less active. These bees have not attacked anyone but this is just for prevention purposes. There is one senior, 15 year old, jack russel terrier mix named Peanut that lives within the preserve. He is on 24 hour security duty and likes to interact with guests. He is friendly with humans and knows how to charm for snacks. Big time! Peanut does not do well with other domestic animal companions; do not bring domestic anaimals. No trash, liquid chemical fire starters, or cigarette butts are allowed in the firepit. Keep your fires within the fire pit at all times and no higher than 2 feet.
