The space Our two-story, two-bedroom townhouse is located in Allegheny West, a vibrant Pittsburgh neighborhood within walking distance of downtown. The townhouse occupies two full floors of a historic row house; it is spacious, comfortable, and artfully-appointed-- a relaxing retreat in the heart of the city. Officially the smallest neighborhood in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny West is nestled between the North Shore (stadium district), the Central Northside, and Manchester neighborhoods. Home to 19th century architecture characteristic of the gilded industrial era, Allegheny West is among the city’s most historically restored neighborhoods. Originally named Allegheny City, the area was considered the gold coast of the region in the late 1800s, and stood among the wealthiest in the world before annexation by Pittsburgh in 1907. Built in the 1870s, the townhouse is part of a historic row house district. Many of the original floor beams, as well as exposed brick, were preserved during our recent renovation. Ceilings were restored to a 12 foot height throughout the living room and kitchen, while lofted ceilings with exposed beams were constructed in the bedrooms. The neighborhood is home to a mix of eclectic small businesses, historic sites, and regional attractions, including City of Asylum bookstore and performance venue, local restaurants, charming bars, craft breweries, coffee shops, art museums, one of a kind RandyLand, and the birthplace of writer and poet Gertrude Stein on Beech Street. Nearby is Allegheny Commons, a beautiful and tranquil city park with playgrounds, tennis courts, walking paths, a duck pond, and a locally famous popcorn and icy stand (seasonal). We hope you enjoy the setting as much as we do! Guest access The townhouse is accessible through the rear door of the property, and occupies the full second and third floors of a historic row house. Private entrance and hallway to townhouse (our Airbnb is NOT in an apartment building complex or condo, making it home-like and relaxing). Keypad code is provided upon booking for easy, private, convenient access. Other things to note -coffee maker and coffee provided. -Record collection to appease most moods. -High fidelity Marshall speaker with bluetooth/smart phone connectivity. -Smart TV (65”).
