Our house sits right on Lake Superior, atop a lava rock cliff, on the "Gold Coast" of Eagle Harbor. Mt. Bohemia & Copper Harbor 20 minute drives away, sand beach & restaurant 5 minute walk. The living room & kitchen have a breathtaking view of the lake that includes the harbor. There are two full-sized bedrooms, one with king bed & one with queen, each of which have lots of closet space. There is also a smaller room with bunk bed. Central heat. Good wifi. Kayaks & canoe. 2 vehicle parking limit If you are looking for a cozy, natural setting to read, write, or just relax, with a stunning view of the world's largest freshwater lake that can be taken in via our wall of windows in the living room or the deck just beyond, this is it. High adventure also awaits via a 20 minute drive to Copper Harbor or Mount Bohemia. The Keweenaw Peninsula is loaded with rich history from its heyday as the world's center of copper mining. Much of the peninsula has been designated a national historic park, where one can find a rich treasure trove of turn-of-the-century architecture and other artifacts, and many interesting residents who keep the Keweenaw's rich spirit burning brightly with the many different museums, tours, and social clubs they maintain. If outdoor adventure is your interest, the Keweenaw also has some of the best boating, hiking, mountain biking, snowmobiling, downhill and cross-country skiing between the Rockies and the Appalachians. Eagle Harbor is one of the more tranquil lakeside towns on the peninsula. In the summer, one hotel sells ice cream and the other has a very nice restaurant and cozy bar. There is a sand beach with a raft for those who love to swim Superior's clear waters. In winter, the ice in the harbor can change by the hour. Whatever season, the shifting view from Freshwater House's back windows or deck often reveal Lake Superior in one of her many awe inspiring moods. Copper Harbor lies 14 miles east along a scenic lakeside highway. There, you can find a microbrewery, several restaurants and gift shops, kayak and mountain bike rentals and tours, and a trail system that has made Copper Harbor one of the top five mountain biking destinations in the United States. Mt. Bohemia, perhaps the most chellenging ski area between the Rockies and the Appalachians, is a 20 minute drive to the Southeast. Bohemia also has a modern spa with hot tub, cold tub, steam room, and sauna, and summer paddleboard and kayak rentals. If you are looking for a little access to modern American, 35 miles to the southwest is Houghton, where one of the nation's best engineering colleges is surrounded by shopping malls, chain restaurants, a cinema, etc. The house has both central heat from a brand new forced air furnace and a wood pellet stove fireplace insert in the living room for optional ambiance. Pellets can be purchased by the bag in Calumet at grocery and hardware stores and sometimes gas stations. For the sake of our short driveway (which is convenient in winter) and our very nice neighbors, we keep our vehicle limit for guests at two. The whole house. We are available via phone, text, or email. A sand beach sits about 200 yards west of the house. An agate beach sits about 200 yards east of the house. The center of Eagle Harbor, where you can find a ball yard, basketball court (with balls), and playground equipment is about a ten minute walk. The Eagle Harbor Inn, which serves lunch and dinner, and has a small friendly bar, is about a 12 minute walk. The marina, where one can park a boat for a fee (paid to the state), is a mile drive around the harbor. Copper Harbor is a 20 minute drive east. Mt. Bohemia is a 20 minute drive to the southeast. Snowmobile trails connect Eagle Harbor to the rest of the Keweenaw. Our listing is located in the town that sits furthest from an interstate highway in the continental United States. You'll have access to two sit-on-top kayaks and an aluminum two-person canoe. Please restrict parking to no more than two vehicles.
