The cottage is completely private with its own entrance. It cannot be accessed through the main house. Guests are invited to use the gorgeous, salt water swimming pool (clothing optional), gas grill and outside dining area which are shared with, but rarely used by your hosts. Access to the shared areas and amenities are through a double-door gate off the patio in the back of the cottage which you can keep open or closed, at your discretion. Your hosts are three, exceptionally friendly, handsome men, originally from New York (upstate and Manhattan), Washington, D.C. and Lancaster, PA. All three of us like to have fun, go out, and – most importantly – host guests. Harv, now retired, worked in mergers and acquisitions in NYC and in retirement held several positions running non-profits and created Lancaster's only visual and performing arts center: The Ware Center. Out-going & knows how to be an exceptional host. Bill, still works as a WIFI specialist for an internationally known printing company -- but soon to be retired. Bill lived in D.C. for seven years before moving to Lancaster, PA. Loves to fish. Plays tennis, pool, softball & golf and going out. Michael, the third host, is also retired. But formerly worked alongside a former White House Chef as a caterer and had his own very successful catering and special event business and a hugely popular restaurant and bar. He originally hailed from upstate New York, lived in New York City and most recently Lancaster, PA. Excellent cook, good conversationalist, tends to the gardens daily. We live in beautiful West Wilton Manors. It is a lively, upscale residential neighborhood -- only a few blocks from all the action on the famous Wilton Drive. The streets often have people walking their dogs or jogging or biking. Mikel Park -- which recently underwent a $1.6 million renovation and re-0pened just this summer -- anchors the neighborhood and you are free to use it during your stay. It is a few steps from our home. The beautifully lit and landscaped park features estate fencing, outside workout stations, a running/walking path, a sand-volley ball court and an amphitheare for musical performances. The park is locked at dusk. There is also a police sub-station in the park and is kept lit all night to ensure your safety. We are located five miles from the Beaches and restaurants and bars of Ft. Lauderdale, less than five minutes from the bars/restaurants of Wilton Drive. And a short ten minute or less drive to the shops of Las Olas. Haulover Beach (the nude beach) is 11 miles away. 15 minutes from the Ft. Lauderdale airport. About thirty minutes (depending on traffic) from South Beach/Miami. We are a two minute drive from Publix (a grocery store), Dunkin', 24-hour convenience store/gas station, liquor stores, Home Depot & Lowes, Walmart Drug Store and many other retail stores, restaurants & bars. The soccer stadium where Lionel Messi will make his American debut (DRV PNK Stadium) is less than ten minutes away. There is a great, relatively new gym (Crunch) that offers day-passes three blocks away, plus many others nearby. We will be happy to recommend bars, restaurants, site-seeing spots, shopping areas -- depending on your preferences. Let us know what you want to do ahead of time and we'll prepare a customized list of suggested places to go and try. Suggestion: Check out Groupon or Living Social for local deals on restaurants, massage services, attractions, theatre, etc. Also, upon booking, we will send your our 30+ customized guide to the area which lists the most popular site-seeing places, bars, restaurants, etc. Although we are only a block or two from public transportation and taxi cabs are fairly easy to reach and inexpensive to use, we strongly recommend you rent a car so you can easily visit all the beaches, restaurants, upscale shopping on Las Olas, and the nearby bars. Florida car rentals are inexpensive and parking incredibly cheap. (We'll show you where & how to pay, depending on where you want to go.) The Cottage also comes with one FREE off-street parking space. UBER & LYFT operate here and are very convenient and inexpensive. Special note: if you plan to go out and have a drink or two, PLEASE do not drive. Use UBER or LFYT. The cops here are notorious for pulling over drunk drivers. There is also a new service called "Circuit." You can download the app. It works like Uber, but it costs only $2 per person to take you anywhere within the city limits of Wilton Manors. We can also offer you two new bikes, if you prefer to get around that way. All the major airlines fly into Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL). We highly recommend SouthWest Air, as they have less add-on “surprises” (like paying for luggage), when you book. Other good rates can be found with Frontier, Allegiant, JetBlue and and the majors. We do NOT recommend Spirit or Silver Airways. Note: You can pre-send a package (with clothes, for example). We’ll hold the package for you until you arrive. If you don't rent a car, UBER is less than $20 to The Cottage. Although a little further and not nearly as accommodating as FLL, you may also want to check airfares into Miami (MIA) or Palm Beach International (PBI). Both are about thirty minutes away. You can take the amazingly inexpensive Tri Rail to Fort Lauderdale. (Consider using Enterprise for car rentals since they’ll pick you up at TriRail.) We offer a Welcome Basket on your arrival, with snacks, some libations and tips on what to do and how to get around. State and Broward County taxes are included in the quoted rate. AirBnB will automatically and pay both the Florida Sales Tax (7%) and the County Tourist Tax (6%) to your invoice, when booking. This is required by law. The cottage is attached to our home and considered a part of it, though there is NO direct, inside access from the main house to the cottage. Your privacy is assured as there are no direct visual lines between the two buildings. Plus, sound does not carry from inside the cottage to the main house. The pool is surrounded by a high, cannot-see-over-it privacy fence. So you can consider the pool a clothing optional area. Since we only rent out this one space, what you choose to wear is up to you. No pressure either way. There is a three-night minimum stay; seven night maximum stay. The cottage is not appropriate for children. And, sorry, no pets. The Cottage is ten minutes from the DRV PNK Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale where Lionel Messi will make his American soccer debut.
