This classic Vermont farm estate has everything that description implies: end-of-the-road privacy with breathtaking views, where the only sound is the wind rustling through the leaves. The manicured gardens, stone walls and quaint but luxurious home seem plucked from classic American folklore. Guests can drink their morning coffee while soaking in views of rolling pastures and forested hills, and spend their days exploring the property's trails, and the beautiful towns and countryside nearby. The space Guests can drink their morning coffee while soaking in the birdsong and breathtaking view of rolling hills. Pass the day by the small private pond or historic barns. Wander the seemingly endless pastures, explore the old farmstead foundations, or hike through the dense woodlands of our farm. The property’s 130+ acres abut Dartmouth’s 700-acre conservation lands, and the end-of-the-road location affords our visitors the utmost privacy. Opportunities for outdoor adventures including (trail and road) running, (road and off-road) biking, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, hunting, and fishing onsite or nearby. In the spring and summer, blooms abound, and in the autumn, the foliage is incomparable. Hole up with your friends or family for a countryside retreat or bask in the abundance of nature in this classic country Cape residence. Whether you’re curling up at the stove for a quiet romantic night in, escaping the world to finish reading (or writing) your novel, romping through the woods with your kids, or cooking a gourmet dinner in the beautiful little chef’s kitchen, the Loft checks all the boxes for a magical getaway. Capable of comfortably hosting up to 8 people, the 1,500 square foot guest house boasts 2 spacious bedrooms, 2 lofted bunk areas (accessible via ladders) as well as 3 full bathrooms (all with showers – no tubs). Though the retreat is in farmlands and feels rustic –– every luxury is also at your fingertips, from the highest quality beds, bedding, and thick and absorbent towels to the petite but thoroughly outfitted chef’s kitchen. You’ll also find custom-made revolutionary war era reproduction beds in the two masters; lovely art, antiques and oriental rugs scattered around, and a beautiful and regularly tuned Steinway baby grand straight from the Aspen School of Music. The home has every amenity you could want for any season: books and games, a flat screen TV with Apple TV and DVD player, (slow-ish) Wi-Fi, a pool (at the main house; open seasonally, and occasionally available for use when we are here in the main house – additional charge for heating may apply), sleds, a gas grill, and a full-size in-house washer and dryer for cleaning up. Whether you’re curling up at the large Rumford fireplace for a quiet romantic night in, escaping the world to finish reading (or writing) your novel, romping through the woods with your kids, or cooking a gourmet dinner in the beautiful little chef’s kitchen, this home has all the makings for a magical getaway. Each main bedroom is on its own level, down the stairs from the living spaces, one below the other – they’re not different enough to fight over, so you can just pick whichever you like. The shared kitchen/dining area on its own level as well, for maximum privacy. Do you need space for more folks? Or is the Guest House booked, but you really need to get away? If so, please check out our other listing - The Barn Loft at Chandlery Farm (which is just up the hill from the guest house on the property - maybe 100 yards away - so you'll have proximity and privacy! You can find it on AirBNB - listing number 32257042 Guest access You'll need your own vehicle, for sure. Dartmouth Coach can get you as close as Hanover, NH, from Boston or New York, and Amtrak also comes to nearby White River Junction, but taxis and similar options are very limited. Outdoor access includes trails that wind past beautiful gardens and pastures, a small stocked pond, our small stream with its many beaver ponds, nearby Cookeville brook's swimming holes, expansive fields and wooded acreage with hiking trails, and huge fields perfect for games. The landline phone makes emergency and local calls, so guests should enable cell phones to make WiFi calling and texting before booking (our remote location has limited cell phone coverage). Joe Lord Farms is also close to to the VAST snowmobile trail (route 25 and 25A). This trail system includes thousands of miles through the scenic Vermont countryside. Other things to note Our beautiful home is great for a staycation, as a work-from-home alternative, or for families looking for a place to be able to freely access nature during difficult times. If you love to walk, hike, bike, cross-country ski or snowshoe, the fields and trails here are wonderful. Please bring necessary clothing and equipment or make plans to rent them. Our grounds, of which a great portion of our own acreage is in conservation, connect to the 700-acre Dartmouth Land Trust. You will be provided with a link to a basic map in your welcome email. The surrounding area is great for mountain biking (or road biking - just keep in mind that the paved road starts about a half-mile from the house) - so do bring your bikes! About our rooms: Please let us know if you are in need of extra blankets, a space heater, lamp, fan, or extension cord. Note that we do NOT have A/C in any of the houses. It's rare that you'll miss it, but if you DO happen to be here on one of those rare 95 degree days, we do have plenty of fans, and one of those portable 'hoses through the windows' AC units that will take the edge off. We have Wi-Fi available in and around most of the structures on the property, and it’s now decently fast thanks to Starlink! We also have DSL wired into the modem for those occasional moments where there’s not a satellite in the Starlink Constellation overhead. All in all, it’s pretty good for such a rural location – certainly good enough for Zoom calls, Netflix, and the like, but that’s not really the point anyway, is it? There is also a landline in the living room of the guest house where you’re welcome to make toll-free calls and local calls as needed. If you have a cell phone, please know that for most carriers there is no reception in this rural location, and reception over our wireless is spotty. You should enable cell phones to make Wi-Fi calling and texting before booking (our remote location has limited cell phone coverage). Guests can expect complete privacy in the home. The owners and their property managers live onsite/nearby and will be available for questions or concerns via text. They will also be available via email or landline for any questions which may arise. Keep in mind that there is almost no cell service in our area, so response times will depend on when folks are near wi-fi. And the property owners are often (but not always) on-site in one of the other residences – we’re friendly folks and pretty social but recognize that some may come here for solitude...we let our guests guide that process. There may also be guests using the Main House, the Barn Loft and/or the Guest House (which is hallway between the barns and the main house), but everything is at least 100 yards apart and screened, and the farm is over 140 acres, so you’ll have privacy!) In addition to being a retreat, the Chandlery Estate is also a working farm. There may be other people on the property throughout the day; the owners and their dogs (all friendly, but one can be barky around strangers), neighbors hiking or riding their horses or mountain bikes through to the connecting Dartmouth College trails, or farmers working around the property. You may occasionally hear the sounds of chickens, tractors running, mowing (there's lots of grass!), or a cow mooing (we have a neighbor's cattle and sheep on the property to keep the pastures healthy). That being said, due to the remote nature of our property, these kinds of disruptions are the exception, not a regular occurrence, and (we hope) are more charming than irritating. Accessibility: Please note that you must be able to climb stairs to enjoy this property –– there are stone stairs from the parking area to the house, and inside of the house itself, between the entry and the kitchen and both bedrooms, as well as ladders to loft areas. Every room is literally on its own level, as the house was added on to organically over the years. Extra Charges: $175 cleaning fee Special Events have their own price list - please contact us directly for details. Registration number MRT-10126712
