Perched above the stately columns on the front of The Inn at Wise, Room 337 is more than a guestroom it is a space steeped in history and storytelling. In 1936, this room served as a refuge for journalists. Among them was the inspiration for Henry Jernigan, the world-weary reporter immortalized in Sharyn McCrumb’s acclaimed novel The Devil Amongst the Lawyers. Room 337 became a vantage point for those narratives. Today, Henry’s Room stands as a tribute to truth and fiction. The space Our hotel is a charming historic property, and some rooms are not accessible by elevator. All rooms on the third floor can only be reached by stairs. Please let us know when booking if you require elevator access. Unfortunately, Henrys room is not accessible from the elevator.
