Description
Step back in time and stay in our medieval 15th century castle, located in Piltown, County Kilkenny in south-east Ireland. Tybroughney Castle is over 500 years old and is steeped in history and combines old-world charm with modern comforts. It's not just accommodation, it's a destination. It is located on a working dairy farm and with its proximity to the mountains, coastline, historical sites and towns it is in a perfect location from which to explore our beautiful country. The space Tybroughney Castle was built in 1462 and is situated on the banks of the River Suir, approximately 1 km from Piltown, Co. Kilkenny. Our nearest town of Carrick-on-Suir is an 8 minute drive. Waterford, The Viking City is only a 20 minute drive and was recently listed in the travel section of The New York Times as the 30th best destination to visit in the world. Kilkenny, The Medieval City is a 40 minute drive and the very impressive Rock of Cashel is 50 minutes drive. The castle has its own private driveway, courtyard and entrance door. The courtyard is complete with beautiful outdoor furniture, a charcoal bbq, a fire pit and outdoor lighting. (We supply the fuel for both the BBQ and the fire pit). There is a fully equipped kitchen just off the courtyard. Just a 700 metre stroll across the fields lies what my husband describes as the most beautiful, tranquil and mindful place. Here on the banks of the river Suir, you can sit and watch the river ebb and flow and observe the river birds as they come and go. On the ground floor of the castle, there is a banquet hall with a large dining table and a wood burning stove. A complimentary self-service breakfast is available in this room each morning from 8am. From here the spiral staircase will lead you to the bedrooms. The Queen's Suite is located on the first floor. This is a large ensuite bedroom (6' bed) with an adjoining smaller bedroom (4' 6'' bed). The Vaulted Suite is located on the second floor. This again is a large ensuite bedroom (4-poster 5' bed) with an adjoining smaller bedroom (4' bed). Please note that the door into the bathroom is narrow and low (width: 21 inches and height: 148 inches). As you continue up the stairwell you will come to The Chapel which is a small room containing a day bed. This can double up as a single bedroom, sharing bathroom facilities with the King’s room. The King's Room is located at the top of the castle on the third floor. This is a very large bedroom (6' bed) with its own shower and a separate bathroom just a few steps away. All the bedrooms have their own seating area, coffee station and mini fridge. The castle sleeps a maximum of 10 guests. We recommend packing a separate overnight bag to take to the rooms as there are many steps. All guests can access the parapet by a short narrow stairs. From here you can enjoy spectacular views of the River Suir, Slievenamon and The Comeragh Mountains. We aim to provide a unique and exceptional holiday experience for our guests creating beautiful moments and lasting memories. The castle accommodates a maximum of 10 guests. There are strictly no parties, no stags or hen parties allowed. There is no smoking permitted anywhere inside the castle. Check-in is anytime after 3pm Guest access A car is necessary while staying at this property as it is located in the countryside. There is private parking on site. Other things to note *Private Chef available to hire (subject to availability). You can enjoy an unforgettable culinary experience without having to leave the castle. Our resident Chef John is passionate about serving up exceptional food. He will work closely with you to develop a menu that meets your culinary preferences. He will cook at the castle and provide you with the best of Irish and international cuisine. He can also shake a nice cocktail or help you pair a glass of wine with a delicious meal all in the comfort of The Banquet Hall. Booking in advance is essential. *Unfortunately the castle is not suitable for wheelchair users or for people with mobility issues due to the nature of the spiral staircase and narrow doorways.
