Pets welcome (free, max 2 per stay) Attractions include: Alnwick Castle (Hogwarts in Harry Potter) - 24 min drive Cragside House and Gardens - 9 min The Holy Island of Lindisfarne - 60 min The Farne Islands puffin tours - 45 min Bamburgh Castle - 50 min The space We would be delighted to welcome you to Ravensheugh - our spacious terraced cottage nestled in the small village of Thropton, near Northumberland National Park. Thropton is a small but well-connected village with a population of 450 people, close to the picturesque town of Rothbury. There are many walks on the doorstep - for example, you can climb Simonside Hill, which is visible from the front window. Or explore riverside routes to Rothbury, a nearby market town. Wild swimming in the Rover Coquet is also possible! The cottage has a cosy lounge with two comfortable sofas, and a large kitchen/dining area with seating for 6. All cooking utensils are provided, along with microwave, electric oven and hob, dishwasher and large fridge freezer. There are 3 large bedrooms with comfortable sleigh beds, 2 king size and 1 double. One bedroom is downstairs - great for anyone with accessibility needs. There is a full family bathroom upstairs with WC, bath and shower. There is also an additional separate shower room with cubicle. Downstairs, there is also a WC. Ravensheugh offers generous, comfortable accommodation for up to 6 people. Wifi is provided and there is a smart TV in the lounge. For those with dogs, there is a utility room at the rear which is perfect for wiping down after a walk in the country! Possibly most spectacular is the land at the back of the cottage. Ravensheugh Cottage has a garden area, a summer house, and guests have access to the green space beyond this. We also have a climbing frame with swing which is popular with our younger guests, as well as a swinging seat which all can enjoy. Guests can also enjoy access to the local burn. The views are spectacular during the day and on a clear night the dark skies are wondrous for sky gazing as the visibility is excellent. Many a shooting star has been witnessed! The land at the rear offers excellent opportunities for wildlife and birdwatching. We have spotted heron, owls and even a kingfisher. To attract more wildlife, we are currently ‘rewilding’ a large area, allowing the grass and flowers to grow more naturally to encourage biodiversity. Beyond this, the cottage offers a perfect base to explore the many delights Northumberland has to offer. On the doorstep, there are beautiful walks and the opportunity to climb Simonside, the majestic hill which can be seen from the front window. Alnwick Castle, home of Harry Potter is a short drive. And, of course, there are many other castles to explore, all within an hour’s drive: Bamburgh, Chillingham, Warkworth and more. Head to the coastal town of Craster for breathtaking scenery and their famous smoked kippers. Take a boat trip to see the puffins on the Farne Islands. Visit the Holy Island of Lindisfarne (check crossing times before you head out). Other things to note Ravensheugh can be booked along with Bridge End Cottage, which is next door, to sleep 10 altogether.
