Description

Come enjoy our humble cabin at the foot of Lake Washington. Only 15 min from downtown Seattle - a retreat with all kinds of natural wonders. A creek runs through the front yard, filled with turtles, crayfish, ducks, herons, and river otters. A public park sits right outside our front door where you can lounge, play basketball, or frolic in the lake. There is a bike path and brewery nearby as well as hikes galore within driving distance. We know you will love it! The space There is a word in Danish called ‘hygge’ which roughly translates to warmth, coziness, togetherness. David lived in Copenhagen for a stretch after college and tried to bring that feeling here. The cabin is all wood with white paint and a mixture of modern and vintage furnishings. It’s the kind of place that calls for candles to be lit, a crackling fire in the woodstove, and a glass of good wine to be sipped. It’s a place that encourages you to drop distractions, digital, work, or otherwise. It’s a simple existence - there are only two rooms. One to live and one to sleep. Wake up to sunlight in the bedroom and the gurgle of the creek outside. Make some coffee, feel the now. Guest access The whole place Other things to note Television/Movie watching: You’ll find a projector screen hidden behind the beam above the dining room. Pull it down to create an instant cinema in the cabin (best used when it’s dark out). Step by step instructions: Pull down screen Find white LG remote Turn on - red button (takes a minute) Find black Insignia remote Click orange on button Click Bluetooth button Sometimes it will automatically connect to the projector, sometimes not If it doesn’t, use the white remote and click the gear button below volume and ‘recent’ Scroll down to ‘sound out’ Scroll right to LG sound sync Bluetooth and click device selection Click the pink arrow next to ‘NS-STR514 If that doesn’t show up - make sure the insignia device (below the record player) is on and set to Bluetooth Once connected click the home button You can now either use the smart TVs apps like Netflix/Hulu/YouTube etc Or - you can chrome cast from any streaming service (this is what we usually do) Open up a steaming app on your device (phone, iPad/tablet) When it prompts you to connect within your local network, say yes Click the chrome cast icon (which looks like WiFi bars in the bottom left of a square) Click connect to ‘Living room tv’ Then you should be good to go! Heat: In the living room there is a white vent next to the fireplace. Turn that switch till it comes on to get heat, turn it down or off when you don’t want heat. To keep it at a nice ambient temperature we like the 9 o’clock position. In the bedroom - leave this heater alone, it’s set at a fairly comfortable temp and is pretty old/finicky and can quickly get too hot if messed with. Shower: Enjoy! Plenty of hot water for shower/bath but probably not two people back to back - would wait a little bit. After showering, slide open the window to let the steam out. When the steam goes out the door it sets off the fire alarm, which is no fun. Washer/Dryer: If you use the washer, leave the door unlatched (slightly open) after you are done so it can air out. Lighting: The lights for the kitchen/dining room are to the left of the fire place. The pipe lamp next to the fireplace can be turned on manually. The rest of the living room lights are controlled by the white remotes - one located by the door, the other free floating. Click the left side buttons to turn them on and the right side to turn them off. Don’t use their physical switches as it will mess them up. Record player: There are handwritten instructions on it Wood burning stove: start with a base of paper/cardboard/starter logs/kindling, catch that and then add larger pieces. Sometimes it can help to close the front door almost shut but leaving a small gap and the air flow kicks the flames up more. The real trick is just to get the stove hot enough internally so that larger wood catches more easily. If it’s giving you trouble, keep at it! You will succeed if you keep trying. When in doubt, just put all the cardboard you can find in and get it real hot. Registration Details STR-OPLI-22-000356
