Built in 1913, this historic site was originally the Norfolk-Southern Cafe. In the 1930s, the building was the site of grocery stores and meeting spaces, eventually becoming a popular coffee shop called "The Coffee Caboose". The space was converted into a private house, located steps from the waterfront and downtown dining and shopping. We sincerely invite you to come and enjoy our waterfront town. The Caboose is a studio unit complete with a queen bed, two futon sleeper couches, living area, kitchenette with refrigerator and gas stove, a washer and dryer and a full private bath with shower. For your convenience parking and wi-fi are complimentary. We are open to longer stays to those traveling for work and needing extended stay accomodations. We also own and operate the AirBnB property next door called "The Sleeper Car" which you can view here: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/11677186?guests=1&adults=1 We look forward to having you and please let us know if you have any questions at all! Take a stroll on the boardwalk, through our historic district or simply sit by the river and take in the beauty of Eastern NC. If you are arriving by boat, you can dock at the free city docks and walk the short distance to the Caboose. Our convenient location puts you at the center of many outdoor activities too. The Belle of Washington offers sailing cruises, dinner cruises or stunning sunset cruises. You will be a short drive away from 7 wildlife refuges and several state parks. Learn about our vital estuaries and coastal rivers at the NC Estuarium, Rent a kayak and explore Castle Island or the back creeks with their cypress, Spanish moss, and the coastal wildlife, hike the trails of Goose Creek State Park, cycle the endless country roads or bike a shorter jaunt exploring the city's beautiful neighborhoods. Whether you are visiting for business, a nearby event or just to escape a hectic lifestyle, The Caboose offers you convenience with all the amenities you need and an opportunity to experience the genteel southern way of life. Parking is free in front of the unit, along McNair Street. For those visiting by water, there is free and paid short-term docking at the Washington waterfront which is whithin walking distance. No special gatherings allowed without permission. For overnight guest only.
