MAISON BARFLEUR Historic seaside cottage

This special place has its own wonderful style. Built in 1885, carefully and stylishly renovated in 2021 and certified for quality by the French Tourism Board. Historic hideway in the charming fishing village of Barfleur. Chosen as one of the most beautiful villages in France. Quiet dream location between the harbor and the beach. Both just 2 min away. It is only 150 m to the house beach. The scent and sound of the sea surround the house and make it very special. The space From the beginning, we experienced this simple historic house as something special. It is part of a listed ensemble of three buildings that was built by a wealthy farmer in the 19th century. Whenever one of his daughters got married, he built her a house. This is how three houses came to be, of which ours is the middle one. You can catch a glimpse of the harbor and sea from the first floor. The second floor offers an even better view, as you can see trees and bushes from there. We were very fortunate to be able to purchase the house with all the furnishings. Much of it dates back to 1885; many furnishings, doors, and details have remained unchanged for decades. Hardly anything is 'new' in the classical sense. Much comes from our personal collection. In addition, there are black-and-white photographs by Max Kling, antiques and found objects from the region, silver and glasses from the 1950s and 1960s, designer pieces and lamps from the 1970s - all of which make for a very special mix. Since we live in the house ourselves for many weeks of the year, you can expect a personal and warm atmosphere. We are looking for guests who appreciate exactly that, in addition to the wonderful location. If you are looking for something special, original and unconventional, then you will feel at home with us. If you need the latest and largest flat-screen TV, the best-equipped spa or a fully automatic kitchen, then you won't. Our house is a very simple house that gives us space to slow down and unwind. That is our luxury. If you are looking for a different kind of luxury, then you should not book our house; you would be disappointed. We don't have a dishwasher because otherwise we would have had to destroy this beautiful historic kitchen. Instead, there is a wonderful old large sink where it is even a pleasure to wash dishes by hand. The stairs up to the first and second floors are narrow and steep, by no means barrier-free. But they are original from 1885 and have already carried many feet of many generations up and down. We don't have a TV, but the internet connection via Wi-Fi works very well, so you can stream everything via the tablet, computer or laptop you bring with you. Otherwise, there is everything that makes life pleasant. A washing machine, hairdryer, blender, coffee maker, iron, and so on and so forth. We look forward to welcoming anyone who appreciates this, as we ourselves do, as a guest in our Maison Barfleur. Please keep in mind that our price includes both the cleaning costs for the house and 15.5% Airbnb fees, which we have to pay as hosts. Other things to note - Wi-Fi available - Garden enclosed by wall and fence - Steep stairs, no barrier-free access to the first and second floors - Families with small children are responsible for the safety of their children on the stairs. Mobile safety grids may need to be brought along and attached without damaging the walls.
