The adjoining village of High Lorton has a small shop and a church. You can reach the town of Cockermouth in just 12 minutes by car with an abundance of bars, shops, restaurants, and independent retailers. There are plenty of coffee shops and cafés as well as the Kirkgate Arts Centre in Cockermouth which hosts regular performances. The tourist magnet of Keswick is only a 7-mile drive over the Whinlatter Forest pass. Keswick’s vibrant centre is popular with outdoor lovers, and you can pick up all your walking gear from many specialist retailers. You also have Derwent Pencil Museum, home to the world’s largest pencil. Puzzling Place, great for the kids, with mind boggling illusions and attractions. If you like culture, then The Theatre by The Lake on the shores of Derwentwater is worth a visit for an evening performance.
