Description

Step back in time and stay in our delightful medieval castle located in Piltown, County Kilkenny in south-east Ireland. Tybroughney Castle is over 500 years old and is steeped in history and combines old-world charm with modern comfort. It's not just accommodation, it's a destination. It is located on a working dairy farm and with its proximity to the mountains, coastline, historical sites and towns, it is in a perfect location from which to explore our beautiful country. The space Tybroughney Castle was built in 1462 and is situated on the banks of the River Suir, approximately 1 km from Piltown, Co. Kilkenny. Our nearest town, Carrick-on-Suir is an 8 minute drive. Waterford, The Viking City is only a 20 minute drive and was recently listed in the travel section ofThe New York Times as the 30th best destination to visit in the world. Kilkenny, The Medieval City is a 40 minute drive and the very impressive Rock of Cashel is 50 minutes drive. The castle has its own private driveway, courtyard and entrance door. The courtyard is complete with beautiful outdoor furniture, a charcoal bbq, a fire pit and outdoor lighting. (We supply the fuel for both the BBQ and the fire pit). There is a fully equipped kitchen just off the courtyard. On the ground floor of the castle, there is a banquet hall with a large dining table. A self-service breakfast is available in this room in the morning from 8am. From here the spiral staircase will lead you to the bedrooms. There are 56 steps to your bedroom (The King's Room) which is located on the third floor. This is a very large bedroom which sleeps two people (6’ bed) and has a shower and separate bathroom just a few steps away. It has its own seating area, coffee station and mini fridge. There is a very small room close by which we call The Chapel. This can double up as a very small bedroom to accommodate one additional guest. It has a day bed which can be used as a single bed.. This is available by ticking the 3 guest option when booking. The King’s Room sleeps a maximum of 2 people and The Chapel a maximum of 1 person. All guests can access the parapet by a short narrow stairs. From here you and enjoy the spectacular views of the River Suir, Slievenamon and The Comeragh Mountains. We aim to provide a unique and exceptional holiday experience for our guests creating beautiful moments and lasting memories. Check-in is anytime after 3pm. Strictly no smoking anywhere indoors. We would recommend you pack a small overnight bag to bring up to the bedroom. Guest access A car is neccessary while staying at this property as it is located in the countryside. There is private parking on site. During your stay We will available to offer help and advice throughout your stay as we live next to the castle. Other things to note Due to the nature of the castle, its spiral stairwell and some narrow doorways , it is not wheelchair friendly or suitable for those with mobility issues.
