Description

Built in 1678 for the Duke of Bolton, Bolton Hall is a historic family seat set in historic parkland in Wensleydale. The Cook’s Flat is a self-contained ground floor bolthole in the west wing and has been newly re-furbished. Decorated with antiques and vintage textiles, many from the main house, it is full of character. There are wonderful walks through the park to the River Ure, a pub at the end of the drive and Bolton Castle is a 5 minute drive. Fishing and stalking can also be arranged. The space The Cook’s Flat is on the ground floor with two steps leading down to it. There is a decent size hall as you enter and off this are the bathroom and two bedrooms. The bathroom has a bath, with shower above it, basin and loo and original stone flags on the floor. The main bedroom has a king size bed with duck down bedding and views across the park at the front of the house. It isn’t huge but has a lovely atmosphere and if there are only two of you, the second bedroom makes the perfect dressing room. The second bedroom/dressing room has a single bed, again with duck down duvet and pillows. This has a pull-out bed beneath it, so can easily be made into a double or two singles. If you would like us to do this for you, please do ask in advance. The kitchen has its original flagged floor, slate-topped cupboards, an electric Rangemaster cooker, full-size dishwasher and fridge with a small freezer compartment. There is a housekeepers cupboard with the crockery, cutlery etc and espresso machine. There is also a Duralit toaster and Smeg kettle. The kitchen can seat four and is a wonderfully light room with parkland views. The south-facing sitting room is full of antique prints, textiles and furniture and the log burner makes it extremely cosy. Logs, kindling and firefighters are provided. There is a large television in here with access to Sky channels. There is also Wi-Fi throughout the house. There is a utility area with washing machine and tumble dryer. The terrace has a fire-pit for barbecues and although there is no garden with the Cook’s Flat, it’s location means you are surrounded by parkland and access to some of the most beautiful walks in the Dales. Guest access Parking is on-site to the rear of the house and is shared with our estate office. It is a two minute drive to Wensley where there is a pub and five minutes to Leyburn, with its independent shops, Campbell’s which is an excellent family owned supermarket and wine merchant and a Barclays Bank. There are plenty of good places to eat in the area and also many historic houses and gardens to visit. Bolton Castle (open March - October) which still remains in the family is five minutes away, as is Constable Burton Hall with its famous May Tulip Festival. Thorp Perrow, near Bedale has its much celebrated arboretum. Other things to note Bolton Hall is part of a working estate, so there will be activity that reflects this. There is also a racing yard and dairy farm to the west of the house, so there are cows and horses nearby.
