Welcoming guests for three days or up to three months, this Victorian gem is just blocks from the Napa River and the ferry to San Francisco in historic Vallejo's Architectural Heritage District. This antique-filled 1890 Queen Ann Victorian is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and boasts a living room, formal dining room, chef's kitchen, five bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a breakfast/laundry room. Three bedrooms (one King, one Queen, and one Full bed) are available, making this the perfect spot for you to stay with friends or family while exploring the Bay Area. This listing is for bedroom 1 -- or the Papa Bear room -- the largest of the three bedrooms available at about 13' x 16.5', furnished with an antique bedroom set, Tempur-Pedic Cloud Supreme Breeze King mattress; two large windows; a flat-screen TV with Amazon Prime and Netflix; and luxury goose-down bedding, including a waterproof, hypoallergenic, dust-mite and bed-bug- proof mattress cover and dust mite and allergy-control duvet cover. It has a painted hardwood floor and an antique rug. All rooms have central heat and AC, and the room is also equipped with a fan and a space heater, for those who run hot or cold. The perimeter of the property is lined with every kind of fruit and nut tree imaginable, and the garden is bursting with vegetables, flowers, and berries (in season). There are more than 100 rosebushes on the property! The home's wrap-around porch is complete with a bistro set, loveseat, and chaise lounge -- perfect for catching the breeze and relaxing among fuschias, wisteria, and camellias. The back yard offers additional comfortable seating, al fresco dining, a swing, a barbecue, and, tucked into a private corner, a three-person hot tub. Street parking is plentiful, and laundry facilities are available for your use. All beds have high-quality mattresses, down pillows and comforters, and luxurious linens. All areas of the house can access Wi-Fi with a password, which will be provided. Soap and towels are included, as is a light breakfast for those staying less than a week, which includes home-grown fruit when in season. You are welcome to the use lemons and herbs from the garden in your cooking, and to share seasonal produce. Short-term guests may also use small amounts of condiments, spices, oils, and vinegars for other meals (if you use more than half a bottle, please replace). Guests staying longer than a week receive discounted rates and are therefore responsible for their own meals and groceries. Please note that the price of monthly rental includes all utilities -- gas, electric, water, garbage, recycling, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Internet -- as well as garden maintenance, house cleaning of common areas, and free use of laundry facilities. Two friendly yellow labs and a ginger cat also occupy the premises, so allergy sufferers are out of luck, but all are polite and well cared for, and they do their business discretely with the use of an automatic pet door (no litter box!). Vallejo is centrally located with easy access to Napa, Sonoma, Marin, Alameda, and San Francisco counties, and it has the best weather in the Bay Area — rarely very hot or cold, with very little fog (unlike San Francisco) and low humidity. In addition to having all the conveniences of a modern city, it is the location of the San Pablo Bay Wildlife Refuge, with unspoiled wetlands and an annual festival in February celebrating the importance of migratory shorebirds and waterfowl, with guided bird-watching outings, hikes, and tours. Guest access Check-in is at or after 3:00 PM and check-out is at or before noon, unless you arrange in advance to come or go earlier or later. Guests have access to the entire house except for the master bedroom. The upstairs bath, with a claw-foot tub/shower, is exclusively for guests' use. If there is more than one separate party staying at the the house at the same time and timing conflicts ensue, all guests will also have access to the downstairs bath, with a giant soaking tub and separate shower. On-demand hot water is plentiful. Drawers and closet space is available for your belongings. During your stay I maintain a quiet and private lifestyle and don't interfere with guests' time in the house, but am responsive to requests and happy to provide information about the area and things to do and see. I am a California native and have lived in San Francisco, Oakland, Alameda, and Berkeley, so I have a good grasp of the area. Other things to note I am a writer, editor, and historic preservationist, and your stay in my home is helping to finance its continued restoration and improvement. It is quite beautiful and comfortable as is, but I always have projects for making it even better. I will let you know if there's a major project in progress when you book your stay and make every effort to minimize its impact on your comfort. Some rooms are not yet perfect (wallpaper and art yet to hang, painting to be done), but the house is clean, comfortable, well-appointed, and still lovely as is. I am enthusiastic about my home's heritage and the history of Vallejo and surrounding areas, which I’m happy to discuss with you if you are interested. Founded as California's state capital in 1850, Vallejo still shows evidence of its past, with its historical museums, rich architecture, and interesting maritime and military past. The first West Coast naval base was located here, where it is rumored that the Atom Bomb was once hidden. Author Jack London was a member of Vallejo’s Yacht Club, and evidence points to the town also being the home of the infamous Zodiac Killer. An annual home tour takes place every December for those interested in historic architecture.
