Description
Located about an hour from Portland at Mount Hood’s base, Zigzag Mountain Farm offers 50 acres of meadows and forest, bordering a national forest. Camp in your own tent, van, or camper; stay in one of eight yurts, a rent-a-tent, the original two-bedroom homestead cabin, or our tiny house. The farm has an organic garden, communal campfire circle, picnic areas, a campers’ kitchen in a converted city bus, outdoor seating with BBQs, a kids’ play structure, hiking trails, and a year-round creek. The space CAMPING DETAILS: Camping is not designated by sites - you choose a spot in one of our meadows or in the forest. We charge by the tent (1 large tent or up to 2 small tents). The rate includes up to two adults and two kids; up to two additional people can be added upon arrival for $5/adult (plus lodging tax). Please bring your own tent and sleeping bag, or contact us about rentals. When you arrive, we’ll show you options and you will select your spot in one of the areas below. No hookups are available for RVs or vans. CAMPING AREAS: Calen’s Meadow: an open area near the main house, ideal for van camping along the drive or tenting in the meadow’s inner space. Niko’s Meadow: a smaller meadow surrounded by trees near the cabin and creek, perfect for tenting. Creek Lane: five pull-in sites for vans and small RVs. Forest Camp: in the forest along the creek, for tenting. North Forest: for those looking for a remote spot. Guest access KITCHEN AND AMENITIES: Our campers' kitchen, in a converted city bus, has a sink and four stove-top burners. Please bring your own pots, pans, plates, cutlery, and a refillable water bottle — think camping! Refrigeration is available but limited, so it’s best to bring your own cooler and ice. We have two communal BBQ areas with propane provided. We provide cleaning supplies and sanitizers so guests can clean before and after using shared spaces, in addition to our routine cleaning. Please pack it in, pack it out (except for compost — we’ll use that for our organic garden). BATHROOMS: Bathrooms are shared and have hot water, and showers are available. Please note that, being on a mountain, water pressure and temperature can occasionally vary. There is also a pit toilet on site. WIFI: Wifi is available on the deck at the Red House. OUTDOORS: Enjoy our 50 acres of forests and meadows, a year-round creek, and a one-mile hiking trail loop right on the property. We’re also close to many other beautiful hiking trails in the area. CAMPFIRE POLICY: We have one big communal campfire pit near the Red House and provide firewood. For fire safety, individual fire pits are not allowed on the meadows or in the forest. During fire bans, we use a propane fire pit. Propane campfire rings are available to rent. S'mores kits with marshmallow, chocolate, and graham crackers are available for sale. Other things to note DOG POLICY: Dogs are welcome! Please keep them on a leash at all times and out of the playground and food preparation areas. Dogs must not be left unattended in yurts, the tiny house, the cabin, or our rent-a-tents. They should always be supervised, stay out of restricted areas, and be cleaned up after. Pet fees are $5/day per pet in your tent or van, and $10/day per pet in yurts, rent-a-tents, the tiny house, or the cabin. Please remember we’re not responsible for any lost or stolen personal belongings during your stay, and guests are responsible for any excessive damage or loss caused to the property. Smoking is allowed only in designated areas, and alcohol can be enjoyed casually. Guests under 18 need to be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or adult group leader. To help everyone relax and enjoy the mountain setting, please keep noise down during quiet hours, and no amplified music or loud parties. We also ask everyone to respect fellow guests, keep shared spaces tidy, and drive slowly (5–10 mph) on E. Mountain Drive and on our property.
