Description
Colorful 116 year old Oakland Row House filled with light and art. Dear prospective guests , before booking, please go beyond the photos to read the entire listing then acknowledge you’ve done so when contacting me. Good communication is appreciated. Thank you! Centrally located on the Berkeley border my Oakland home is convenient to Berkeley, San Francisco and Oakland via all public transportation. Six min walk to Ashby Bart. The space Your light filled bedroom faces south, opens to a spacious deck with a tangled garden below. Located in a quiet, residential neighborhood, the house is a 6 min walk to Ashby Bart. Bus stops, cafes and markets are all a within walking distance. There's closet space, a suitcase rack, line-dried cotton linens, a comfortable single bed and shared bath. The house is well lived in and comfortable but by no means fancy. The household includes one indoor/outdoor cat who can be a bit noisy at feeding time. Although the house is kept very clean and he is easily kept out of your room, if you have allergies or harbor any aversion to felines, or animals in general, this probably isn't the right situation for you. As the listing stipulates, this is a room for one person. Day time visitors by arrangement only. Guest access You're welcome to enjoy the garden and deck. The kitchen is available for light cooking between 8am and 7:00pm only. My painting studio, a separate building in the back, is private and off limits to guests. During your stay What seems comfortable. Sometimes quite a lot other times just a little. I value my privacy, work and quiet time and respect yours. Other things to note Instructions to book: To insure an agreeable visit please start with an inquiry not a booking. Introduce yourself as if you're asking to stay in a private home not a hotel. I accept requests from those who have a profile and/or tell a bit about themselves, the reason for their visit and acknowledge they have read and understood the entire listing. Good communication is much appreciated. Thank you! +++PARKING+++ There is no off street parking. If you’re visiting with a car for more than a weekend and plan to leave it any length of time on the street, you will have to pay for a permit.. give me a heads up so I can order one which can take a week or more. There's plenty parking on the street. ☆☆☆ OUR WATER IS PRECIOUS AND EXPENSIVE ☆☆☆ Please be respectful of our limited natural resources: Water in California is expensive and precious. Keep as much from going down the drain as possible. *One short shower per day (baths are restricted) *don't let the faucet run while washing dishes, brushing teeth or shaving. *** ENERGY CONSERVATION *** Turn off lights and computers when you leave a room or go to sleep! Like many older Bay Area houses mine does not have insulation. The forced air furnace heats the house during the cold mornings and evenings but is turned off at night. In the winter the house gets cold at night. There’s a good comforter, plenty of warm blankets. However if you need a constant 78+ degrees this is not the house for you. ***RECYCLING AND COMPOST*** Recycle all plastic, metal, glass and paper (even small pieces). All food leftovers, food soiled paper, take-out containers, napkins, paper towels, etc go in the stainless steel compost bin. **SAFETY** When walking in the neighborhood …Look up from your phone, remove earbuds and be aware of your surroundings. If you've opened a window or door make sure you lock up before leaving. To ensure you've read the entire listing mention the planet Jupiter when you contact me. ****Miscellaneous *** There is no microwave or automatic coffee maker. A toaster-oven, french press or stove top espresso maker are available, or you may drip coffee by hand. There are several cafes with good coffee a short walk away. I appreciate knowing whether or not to expect someone coming in at night so please be so kind as to let me know if you intend to spend a night elsewhere during your visit. Dancing in the kitchen is always encouraged!
