Description

The vision behind Oomblik is the creation of a place in the middle of nature, a piece of 'nowhere,' an off-the-grid sanctuary, tucked away in the Bainskloof Nature Reserve. Here at Oomblik, you'll find peace, calm nature, and wide views to settle the body, mind, and soul. The space Oomblik Cabin offers a mindful and calm approach to comfort while being tucked away in serene nature. Our cabin combines well-considered interior choices with earthy tones and organic materials. All our folding doors open completely, offering our guests an amazing indoor/outdoor living experience with magnificent mountain views, fresh air, and indigenous fynbos around you. Let nature in and leave the rest behind! The Mount Bain Nature Reserve itself is located only 90km from Cape Town, making it only a hop from the city, before you indulge in spectacular hiking routes, rock pools, swimming spots, and mountain biking routes (in winter there are also water sports, such as kayaking possible). Our reserve is also surrounded by flower and fruit farms, little farm stalls, wine farms such as "Bergsig," or the famous Monks Gin Distillery, where you can pop in on weekends for a tasting or even a snack. Oomblik Cabin Highlights: - Two kingsize beds, inviting you to rest on handmade duvets and pillows, which contain organically sourced wool only. - An open-plan living and dining room. - A fully stocked kitchen for all your cooking ambitions and a gas braai outside. - A comfortable hammock that fits up to three people. - A free-standing bathtub to enjoy some bubbles and a magnificent view over the Breedekloof Valley (especially at night!). - Our outdoor shower invites you to breathe in some fresh and brisk morning air while you unwind under a hot (or cold) stream of mountain water. - Three fireplaces to keep you warm during rainy or stormy winter nights. The heart of our outside deck? A spacious plunge pool that offers you an infinity view, making you feel not just like a visitor but part of this calming nature around you. Hiking & Birding: - Several bird and also indigenous fynbos species frequent the area around the cabin. Daily visitors like the Cape sugarbird, the orange-breasted sunbird, a jackal buzzard, fellow robins, or the beloved bokmakierie can be seen right from our deck. - There is a 10-minute hike from the cabin that brings you straight to an amazing outlook position to watch the sunset over the Breedekloof Valley. - There is a 1-hour hike that leads you to a refreshing waterfall. Amenities & Surroundings: - Gin tastings at the famous Monks Distillery. - Wine tastings at picturesque Bergsig. - Breakfast at the cute, little farmstall bordering the reserve. - A rustic bush pub for a savory burger and that coke & brandy you might have been craving. Important: - Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate any children if not agreed upon before your check-in. Please note that the cabin runs entirely on solar power and heating devices, blenders or any item that asks for a higher energy exchange is not allowed to be used during the stay. Guest access Our cabin is located in the Hawequas mountain, only 90 minutes away from Cape Town, tucked away in a private nature reserve. The drive is a beauty on its own, but a bit of a bumpy one. You will need a higher clearance vehicle to drive up to the cabin, but do not worry if you only have a smaller car. We can also securely park your car and bring you up that mountain in our shuttle service. Just give us a shout, and we will organize! Other things to note We are one of the few dog-friendly reserves in the Western Cape. Of course, we ask you to make sure that your doggies are well-behaved, won't dig a tunnel back to Cape Town (if the tolls are getting more expensive, this might be an idea though), and are strictly not hunting our smaller wildlife - but in exchange, we treat them with fluffy beds and a welcome cookie. (Maximum capacity is two dogs and five people, good ratio, right?)
