Beautiful Provencal house, garden and closed parking
Description
In Petite Camargue, next to the location where the TV series "Ici tout commence" is filmed, the house is on the edge of the village, in a large enclosed garden with lots of trees, where you can park. It is very spacious and elegant. For swimming, Lake Vergèze beach is 5km away, the sea 20km away, the towns of Grau-du-Roi, Nîmes, Aigues-Mortes, Arles, Montpellier nearby. The village and its surroundings have all amenities and shops. Only for a peaceful family stay. The space This is the house where I live the rest of the year. The place is suitable for individuals or families who want to stay in a quiet location to visit the area. So, no parties, and, of course, I expect normal respect for the premises and the objects made available, as you would like to have for your own. (House rules are available on the website under the Conditions and Rules section). Sorry, no pets allowed. THE HOUSE: The house is a former wine cellar built in 1845 by my great-great-grandfather and converted into a residence by my parents in the 1970s. It has just been completely repainted and renovated. The rooms are very spacious. The furniture and decor are high quality and give it a lot of charm. It has 4 bedrooms with 3 double beds and 2 single beds: one bedroom on the ground floor, the others upstairs. There is a bathroom with a toilet upstairs, a shower room and a separate toilet on the ground floor, and a third toilet is also on the ground floor. The bedrooms are bright and quiet, with large beds, tables and storage furniture, and solid wood floors. The large kitchen is very functional with its two large farm tables, its large worktop, and its equipment: oven, stove, microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster, coffee maker. The living room is huge and has two sofas. You can also spend time outside, under the shade of the large trees, between the large terrace and its shaded gazebo, the hammock and the deck chairs. The garden is a punk garden, meaning that nature flourishes a bit freely. Please note that there is no air conditioning. But the house is relatively temperate thanks to the thick stone walls and the very tree-lined garden. In addition, each room has a large, new, high-performance ceiling fan. Near the house, there is a boules court, a children's park, a stadium and a site with weight training equipment (free access to the site!) From the house, you can do anything on foot in the village. There are all the shops (bakery, grocery store, butcher shop, newsstand), and a farmers' market on Saturday. There is also a restaurant and two pizzerias. A supermarket is 4 km away outside the village. And many local producers nearby (wine cellars, Camargue salt, market gardeners, rice, etc...) THE VILLAGE: Le Cailar is a charming village typical of the Camargue in the Gard department that has existed since prehistoric times and has about 2,500 inhabitants. In a quiet and residential area, the house is at the exit of the village on what was once a... Gallic port. (Excavations are still carried out once a year next to the house, and the discoveries are exhibited at the Musée de la Romanité in Nîmes). When you leave the house: To the right, you arrive at the pétanque court under the plane trees. Take advantage of the facilities of the free sports course, and in a few meters, you are in the heart of nature, in the vineyards and meadows where you can see the herds of white horses and black bulls. To the left, you are in the heart of the village, with its typical old houses, its 11th-century Romanesque church and its bullring classified as a historical monument, its square, its shaded cafe, its weekly market and all shops within a 5-minute walk: very good bakery, artisanal butcher shop specializing in bull meat, greengrocer, pharmacy, post office, grocery store, tobacco-newspapers-photocopying, shaded cafe, physiotherapist, hairdresser, etc... There is also a large supermarket in the neighboring village, Aimargues, which is a 5-minute drive away. What to do: In the neighboring village, 5 km away, you can swim in the small Lake Vergèze Plage, where there is also a water park for children. In another neighboring village, there is the possibility of renting canoes and swimming in the Vidourle River. The beaches of Le Grau-du-Roi are 20 minutes away by expressway, which you can take directly at the exit of the village... Just a little further on are L'Espiguette, Carnon, Palavas, etc. You love nature and sports: - The house is on the edge of a Natura 2000 area. On foot, by bicycle or by car, there are many walks available for you to discover the fauna and flora of the Camargue. In the meadows and marshes of the village, but also nearby, in the Scamandre Nature Reserve or on the greenway via Rhona Vauvert-Gallician, a cycling path on the banks of the Canal du Rhône à Sète that goes all the way to the sea. Magnificent landscapes to discover, towards Aigues-Mortes, the Salins du Midi, or by taking "Le Bac du Sauvage" towards Saintes Maries de la Mer, Saint-Gilles, and the Rhône Delta. You like culture: - Aigues-Mortes, a fortified medieval village, the "little Carcassonne", 10 km away - Sommières, a medieval village with a very famous market, 20 km - Saint-Gilles and its abbey, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, 15 km - Nîmes, with its Roman treasures, Maison Carrée, Roman arena, and museums, is 25 km away - Montpellier, the city of festivals, champion of culture, 35 km away - Arles, its landmarks, its museums, the LUMA Foundation, the Rencontres de la photo, 40 km away - The Pont du Gard, one of the most visited sites in France, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, 50 km - Uzes, ducal town, 50 km - Sète, charming fishing port, 70 km Several films have been shot in the village, including some scenes from "Pickup on Route 1". More recently, "Une table en Provence", a German TV series, and in the village next door, St Laurent d'Aigouze, "Ici tout commence", the famous TF1 series, is being filmed. Many artists live in the area, like your host ;-) You like traditions: The village is "the Capital of the Petite Camargue", famous for its bullfighting traditions known as "la bouvine". Games (without cruelty) take place all summer in the villages of the region, in which the "razeteurs" compete with courage and skill to catch small items (rosettes, tassels) on the heads of bulls in the arenas. The arrivals and the bandidos see the bulls pass through the villages twice a day during the local festivities. You like gastronomy: taste typical dishes of the region such as gardianne, made with bull meat (our butcher is a specialist in it), to take away or in its many restaurants. The area also produces excellent wines, the Côtières de Nîmes, the Vins des Sables. The Salins du Midi are just a stone's throw away, where they harvest "La Baleine" salt, and the Perrier spring is in the next village over. Not to mention the Haribo candy factory located near Uzès... ...but you can also just relax and enjoy the garden and lazing around... That's good too... . Guest access Access: This rental is more suitable for people who travel by car, motorcycle or bicycle. Parking is available on-site inside the garden. Ideal for example to park your motorcycles out of sight... There is a bus line to Nîmes and back and a train that goes to the beach in summer, but hey... It's not very practical. On the other hand, from the house, you can do everything on foot in the village and take beautiful rides on two wheels. From Nîmes, Montpellier, Lunel. A9 highway, Gallargues-le-Montueux exit. Route Nationale 113, towards Arles-Vauvert (next to Vauvert). Nîmes Garon or Montpellier Sud de France Airport and then car rental or taxi. Lunel or Vergèze-Codognan SNCF station then taxi. Other things to note As the garden is on the edge of the Natura 2000 area, you will have the pleasure (if you are discreet and early risers) of coming into contact with wildlife from the house and observing squirrels, owls, various birds, pipistrelles, hedgehogs, geckos, etc. For all these reasons, pets are not welcome.
