Featuring a large living area with fireplace, full size eat-in kitchen, 2 bedrooms with full size beds, private bathroom with claw foot tub, and a comfortable porch with stunning, unspoiled views. Since 1905, the Garner family has owned the cattle ranch passing through various generations. It is now operated by great-granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth “Meg” Garner, with her husband Ted Johnson and daughter Hannah Johnson. Garner Ranch has been a film location site for a number of Hollywood’s famous B-westerns include Texas Terror (1935), starring John Wayne, Republic Pictures’ Guns and Guitars (1936) and Springtime in the Rockies (1937) both starring Gene Autry and Smiley Burnette, Grand National’s Heading’ for the Rio Grande (1936) starring Tex Ritter, Monogram’s Stars Over Arizona (1937) starring Jack Randall, RKO Pictures’ Brothers in the Saddle (1949) and Riders of the Range (1950) both starring Tim Holt and Richard Martin, and Universal-International’s Raw Edge (1956) starring Rory Calhoun and Yvonne De Carlo. Some television series' that filmed at the ranch include The Virginian, Fury, Hopalong Cassidy and Eight is Enough. In 1959, the Garner Ranch was utilized for the opening credits of the ever-popular Bonanza. Although the Ponderosa Ranch house is actually located in Inverness, California near Lake Tahoe and much of the filming was done there, the opening scene where the Cartwright family ride down the meadowland into the television screen was actually filmed at the Garner Ranch. Guest access Garner Ranch is one mile from the highway situated next to National Forest. The quiet, dark nights allow for stargazing and satellite searching. Sounds of owls and coyotes in the distance with sights of bats flying keep the senses entertained. Other entertainment includes a television in the living area with a blue ray player. We have a small library of discs, but guests are advised to bring their own blue ray/dvd discs. Please be advised that our rooms do NOT have air conditioning. They all have fans. It normally cools down nicely in the evening and early mornings. If you are particularly sensitive to hot weather, you may want to think about whether or not this is a good time for you to visit. Wifi/Internet works well if you want to stream your content. Verizon works very well here, AT&T works pretty well while all other cell phone carriers have poor signals Other things to note 2 night minimum. Holidays 3 night minimum (Christmas, New Years, Thanksgiving, Easter) There is parking for 3 vehicles.
