Felton Forest Cottage Near Henry Cowell State Park

Your new weekend retreat! The Cottage is situated on unique forest-farm acreage across the street from Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, surrounded by redwood fairy circles and a beautiful stream. [Permit #: 181566] Charming, private, and yet handily walkable/drivable to parks surrounding the town of Felton and the Santa Cruz Mountain area. About 1 hour south of San Francisco, we're a quick 14 minute drive down picturesque Highway 9 to downtown Santa Cruz and it's popular beaches and Boardwalk. The space Our charming 1930's Cottage sits centrally on three fairly flat mountain acres facing the main house and barn, but guests have privacy with their own entrance and porch. The Cottage has a comfortable queen bed in a roomy bedroom with a wood-burning stove, a recently updated en suite bathroom with tub, a small kitchenette with stove and fridge, a sit-down dining table for three, and a living space with a sofa-bed and TV. WiFi and Netflix are available, as are some reading books and a few classic board games and decks of cards for those enjoying a real "unplugged" vacation. Like most homes in the coastal area, the cottage does not have central air-conditioning; fans and heaters are provided for guest use depending on the season. The cottage was recently re-roofed and all the original windows have been upgraded. We try and use no/low/minimally fragranced cleaning products and detergents in the cottage as much as possible. Guest access The Cottage has it's own wisteria-decked porch and seating. A walkway from the parking area leads around the cottage to the porch and front door. A massive redwood tree next to the cottage provides privacy. You're welcome to explore and enjoy the property, including visiting our redwood fairy circles and Shingle Mill Creek which borders our land. Parents will need to supervise their kid's explorations at all times (poison oak is a fact of life in our neck of the woods - if you're not sure what it looks like, we can point it out to you)! Other things to note The Cottage is great for couples, solo travelers, and business travelers. The Cottage is an older building and not baby or toddler proofed, so although we're open to hosting younger guests, parents of wee ones will have to exercise caution. We provide a set of towels per guest for your stay. If you join us for longer than a few days we're happy to provide more. We clearly love animals and enjoy not only our own but the wild deer, turkeys, and nocturnal animals that also visit our property regularly. For the safety of our wild and domesticated friends on the property - and to be sensitive to guests with allergies - we cannot host your furry friends when you stay at the Cottage. Our area has been subject to Pacific Gas & Electric Planned Maintenance Outages of between 24-72 hours. These power outages happen during times of especially high wind activity during fire season (typically May through December). In addition, the Bay Area is sometimes subject to a Spare the Air alert, and wood burning fires are not allowed, and so the cottage's wood burning stove may not be available to you during your stay. We will let guests know when either of these fire season precautions may overlap with a visit, but because they are weather-related, they often happen on short notice.
