Description

This was one of the first homes in the valley, built in the 1950s. It’s simple, comfortable and full of history and character. There’s no TV and no wifi. Perfect for slowing down and exploring nature. There are baths indoors, no indoor showers, but the outdoor shower is a highlight – open to the sky, surrounded by trees and with hot water. You’re a 2-min walk from an unspoiled beach, forest hikes, a local shop and a restaurant – everything you need for a peaceful stay. The space A much-loved family beach house — simple, cosy, and full of character. Life here revolves around the beach, the forest, and being outdoors. The outdoor shower is one of our favourite features — warm, open to the sky, and perfect after a swim. The house is unpretentious and ideal for families with kids. It’s a comfortable base for exploring this extraordinary part of the coast. The cottage has three bedrooms: two inside the main house, and one separate room that opens onto the front porch. The third bedroom is private and comfortable, but it’s accessed via the front porch and doesn’t have direct access to the rest of the house. To reach the bathroom, guests will need to walk out, cross the porch, then into and through the house. It’s ideal for early risers, teens, or anyone who enjoys a bit of independence. The house is filled with old-school charm, from the modernist and art deco furniture to well-stocked bookshelves covering everything from novels to nature guides. Our cottage, Twigs, has been in the family for generations. No one quite remembers how it got its name — but it's stuck, and so has the sense of history. Guest access You’ll have full use of the house, garden, porch, and outdoor shower. Parking is on-site and fits two cars comfortably, three at a squeeze. The property is fenced, but animals like buck and baboons can still come and go — that’s part of the valley. Other things to note This is a cherished family getaway with quirks, and old world charm. There’s no TV and no wifi. If you love nature, books, and quiet, you’ll likely feel right at home. The outdoor shower is a favourite, with hot water and a view of the trees. There are baths indoors too, if you prefer. The third bedroom opens directly onto the front verandah and doesn’t connect to the rest of the house from the inside. It’s private, with a secure door and key provided, but bathroom access is via the front porch. Many guests appreciate the added space and independence, but it's worth knowing in advance if you’re booking with younger children or light sleepers. This is a down-to-earth seaside retreat. We work with local help to get the cottage ready between stays, and while we expect it to be clean and comfortable, it may not meet hotel standards. If anything feels off on arrival, please let us know.
