Completed in December 1875, the Henry Piper House, now known as the "B" Street House Bed and Breakfast, reflects the accomplishments of local businessman and politician Henry Piper. Henry immigrated to Virginia City in 1860 with his older brother, John, to establish a saloon and then the Opera House, which became famous world wide for offering the very best in talent to the booming mining community. Virginia City developed after the 1859 discovery of the Comstock Lode, the richest silver ore ever found up to that time. Millionaires were made overnight on mining stock speculation and by way of providing services to the local miners. Henry Piper partnered in running the saloon and Opera House and became a millionaire businessman and politician, establishing this lovely Victorian home on Millionaires' Row. Henry served as a city alderman and city treasurer, and spent one session in the Nevada Legislature as an assemblyman. He continued his behind-the-scenes political career as a member of the Republican Central Committee during the 1870s and was a member of several local fraternal organizations. Virginia City is one of the largest historic districts in the United States. And since 2011, the Henry Piper House has its own individual place on the National Register of Historic Places based on its unique architecture (row house) and association with Henry Piper. Purchased in total disrepair by the previous owners in 2004, the house underwent a complete restoration to open as a bed and breakfast in 2007. The restoration was completed under the guidelines of the Department of the Interior and received a Nevada State Historic Preservation Office award in 2008.
