The space You’re gonna totally dig this groovy getaway called the Happy Hippie House. It’s got the best location in all of Asheville since it’s in a cute residential neighborhood that’s a quick walk to West Asheville’s popular bars, breweries, restaurants, and shops – including Instant Karma, the coolest hippie shop east of the Mississippi! It’s also a quick 7-minute drive to downtown, 10 minutes to the Biltmore Estate, and 14 minutes to the Blue Ridge Parkway. So, it’s far out, without being far out! Can you dig it? Plus, you can’t beat the fun, eclectic vibe. It’s right on, man. Your space is a private apartment is in the garden level of a charming and quirky 1920s home in a quiet residential neighborhood in West Asheville, walking distance to shops, restaurants, and nightlife. (See exact walking times below.) At around 380 square feet, the apartment is spacious enough for a couple of people on vacation, including a 150 square foot bedroom, a 193 square foot open concept living room and kitchenette, and a 38 square foot bathroom. LIVING AREA - Your private apartment has its own entrance around the back of our home. The apartment includes an open concept living area with a seating area and kitchenette with a kickin’ vibe. The seating area has a smart TV so you can easily view a variety of television channels or log in to your personal Netflix or other streaming TV accounts for when you want to chill with the groove tube. Of course, with the color-changing floor lamp and three uber-cool Lava Lamps, you may find you’ve got other things to chill and watch than a screen. Free Wi-Fi is also included. KITCHENETTE - The attached kitchenette has a sink, mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. We supply coffee, tea, and sugar. BEDROOM - The separate bedroom includes a queen-sized bed. The mattress is a firm Serta mattress, and it has a pillow topper added to make it even cozier. On each side of the bed is a bedside table, equipped with a reading lamp and power outlet for cell phone charging. There is a closet with hangers. Inside the closet, we keep an extra blanket, pillows, a fan, an iron, and an ironing board. Plus, you can’t beat the trippy blacklights for the ultimate dreamy night. You can enjoy the Happy Hippie mural painted with neon-style, UV-reactive fluorescent paint, and lots of classic hippie blacklight posters. There's a track of blacklights all around the ceiling and two blacklight spotlights on the floor. There are also colored fairy lights above the bed. BATHROOM - The private bathroom includes a sink, mirror, toilet, and shower. We provide towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, and a hair dryer. Oh, and plenty of hot water, dude, so you can enjoy being a clean hippie. ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGER - For those of you Mother Earth lovin’ electric car drivers, we have a 240 V Level 2 ChargePoint charger using J1772 plug (which fits most EVs). Tesla drivers may bring their J1772-to-Tesla adapter. SOUND LEVEL - We live upstairs, and this old house has creaky floors. Even though we generally try to be quiet, you will hear our footsteps and our dogs at times. We provide a white noise machine and ear plugs, but if you are sensitive to sound, you may prefer to book elsewhere. Other than that, it's all copacetic. SAFETY - The apartment is a legal, licensed, short term rental that has passed inspection by the City of Asheville for safety and compliance (Homestay Permit 16-12139). It has appropriate egress, smoke detectors, a carbon monoxide detector, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and an emergency lantern, ‘cause you know, safety first, man. There's also street parking available. The neighborhood is very walkable. (See the full description for details all the things you can walk to and how long it will take to get there.) Other things to note LOW CEILING (see photo gallery) - The ceiling height in the apartment is 6'6" high. In your private bathroom, the ceiling height is 6'2", and in the shower it is 6'1". Also, the bathroom doorway includes a step up, which is a bit quirky and requires that you watch your head while traversing that doorway. (The height of that one doorway is 5 feet 7 1/2 inches.) Thus, if you are very tall, or if you do not care for quirky construction, you may feel more comfortable elsewhere, ‘cause we don’t want to bring down your vibe. UNEVEN TERRAIN (see photo gallery) - To access your private apartment, there is a path of stepping stones leading down a hill to your private entrance in the back. These steps are not a standard height and depth, nor are they level. Thus, our accommodations are not ideal for guests who have mobility challenges, are uncomfortable with stairs, or have heavy luggage they need to roll. So, travel light and you’ll be free as a bird now. Peace out!
