Cozy log cabin on the farm Hovde in Skurdalen

Welcome to Gamlestua. Older timber cabin built in 1916 completely renovated 2021/22 with new bathroom and kitchen. Gamlestua is located in the yard of the farm Hovde in Skurdalen, with a short distance to Geilo, approx. 9km from the centre, 10 minutes' drive. The space Here you can enjoy lazy summer days to the sound of grazing sheep and cold winter nights with crackling snow outside the walls. If this gets boring in the long run, there are plenty of activities nearby such as alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, rafting, climb park, dog sledding, horse riding, ice bathing and sauna, nature park with wolves and moose (Langedrag), hiking terrain in the mountains and forest, swimming, spa, bowling and much, much more. (Many of the activities are seasonal and something is just open in high season) The cabin is also a good option for a stop and overnight stay for trips to the west coast and the fjords in Eidfjord, Flåm, Aurland and further towards Bergen. Guest access We have built stairs up the mountain behind the cabin to several viewpoints, there are 975 steps to the top. The stairs were completed with railings in summer 2025 and have become a popular hiking destination. (Not available when there is snow) Google "Hovdetrappa skurdalen" and you will find more pictures. Other things to note Bed linen and towels are included. The cabin is 10 meters in from the road, guests have to go up a slope with grass (snow in winter). The cabin is not suitable for guests who cannot walk in terrain. See pictures showing the access.
