Wild Rose Cottage, Gardens, & Stained Glass Studio
Wild Rose Cottage, Gardens, & Stained Glass Studio
Description
Our 1914 cottage has weathered many storms and stands tall with charm. She is well loved and lived in. We have chickens pecking in the garden, sun shining through our stained glass, spiders spinning webs, paint drips, palmetto bugs, cats napping, Spanish moss in the trees with a swing beneath, and a screened-in porch to take in the beauty of a long day's sunset. Our island homestead is for those looking for a down-to-earth stay with nature & art close at hand. We live a slow handmade life ♥ The space We are a multi-generational artist family. We rent out the front half of our home, which can accommodate up to 8, and live on the backside of the house. We have owned the home since the 80s and she has seen many changes over her 108+years.[Parts of her are much older than that!]Your entrance is through the front door. Our listing is *not* handicap accessible, sadly. There is a bedroom & bathroom on the first floor, though you do have to go up 4 front porch steps to enter the residence. Please take note 💜 ** Please understand before booking that our lovely island is full of nature- expect birds, bugs and sand (and more!) - we can not change the environment nor would we want to. We love to keep the rooms cozy and cheerful but please note she is an old home with quirks. There is not a kitchen on your side, but we have upgraded an antique Hoosier cabinet with an electric cooking range, mini fridge, microwave, egg cooker, toaster oven, coffee machine, a large water filter, and an outside cook-shack with a grill & Blackstone flattop. We are NOT located directly on the water (though you can see it through the trees <3 ) but this is a small island and the public beach and pier as well as plenty nature spots are moments away. If you are looking for a low-key spot to take in nature and explore, this is the place. She may not be fancy and we understand she is not for everyone, but she is loved, peaceful, and we provide a welcoming space. Guest access We may wave or say hello but we try to respect your privacy so you are welcome to self-checkin after 3pm. We have parking spots to the right of the driveway next to the fence. Your entrance is through the front screened-in-porch. A key will be hanging up just inside the house on your right. **We can accommodate up to 3 vehicles. If you are bringing a boat or large trailer let us know ahead of time. We have a special spot designated and will make it available to you. **You do not have to back out of our drive - it is a circle driveway and you are welcome to come and go that way. We live on a very sharp and dangerous curve (called Deadman's curve - watch children as well) Be careful <3 Other things to note *Please keep in mind this island and home are for those seeking a calm and quaint experience. If you are looking for a more commercialized vacation we gladly recommend booking closer to Beaufort/Morehead. Here we are close to nature and perfection is a status we do not strive to achieve. We live a slower and calmer life here and this side of the world is not for everyone and we understand that ❤ * We are on an island so there is public beach access just down the road but not on the property. Also there is a short ferry ride that takes you to some of the most beautiful and untouched beaches in America. * Our stained glass "Make-and-take" classes are available through airbnb experiences or you can contact me to ask about availability. You pick out your design, create it, and take it home the same day! Schedule ahead please, days fill up quickly no matter the season! Kid & beginner friendly. * we provide you with a microwave, outdoor kitchen with grill, basic kitchen utensils, coffee maker, mini fridge etc. You can also just ask and we will let you borrow anything you may further require. ♥ *Week-long stays: Let us know if you need your garbage collected and if you need more fresh eggs from our ladies! **Please check our guide book for local attractions!
