The special home and bucolic property is situated above a lovely brook, surrounded by mountain views, waterfalls, stone walls, gunite pool, magical gardens and 175 acres of private hiking trails. The setting is above a lovely brook with views of woods, acres of ferns, stone walls, and hiking trails. The recently renovated cottage features comfortable furniture, soft lighting and accessories in natural materials, textures and muted tones that compliment the serene environment. The large sunroom overlooks 175 acres of private land trust and looks out over upper yard and pool area. The guests will have access to private gardens, the pool in season, and land trust with 175 acres of private hiking trails. The private cottage is set back in the rear yard of the Stephen Smith House. We live in the main house on the property and are happy to answer any questions you have during your stay. We are happy to interact as much or as little as you like! The property is located on a quiet country road, just a few short miles from the Connecticut River and one mile to the center of Higganum where you will find a nice grocery store, feed and supply store, and package store. Enjoy theatre at Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, or the quaint New England towns of Chester and Essex just a short 15 min drive where you will find incredible restaurants, local shops and farmers markets. The beach towns of Old Saybrook and Madison are a 25 min drive south and 15 min to the north you will find Middletown and Wesleyan University.
