It is eco-friendly with the choices of building materials and of the waste management protocols during construction. We built it making conscious environment decisions to support companies making decisions that impact our natural resources. This home is an Eco-Cottage and with that comes certain aspects that we followed to be more ecologically/environmentally friendly: The landscape. Clover, micro clover and eco-grass are planted in an around the cottage. All are good for the soil, as they provide nitrogen to the soil; they do not require watering (conserving a natural resource) but also do not require pesticides which can leach into the groundwater; the tall "weeds" are actually the Milkweed plant - these plants are vital for the survival of the Monarch butterfly during their long migration to Mexico. Milkweed is the preferred plant of this beautiful butterfly; the other weeds are dandelions, and wildflowers which are the first foods for the bees that are so vital to pollinate much of our food. The mattresses are organic foam made from soybeans traditional spring mattresses are mostly made with synthetic fibers or foam, which don't biodegrade. Cotton or wool stuffing can be processed with pesticides and other chemicals. Thank you, Jodi
