Upon opening the double hand-made wooden doors facing east and the entire wall of full glass doors facing west over the pool and ocean, and you will feel enmeshed in the beautify land feel of the rain forest around us. The 2 family bedroom living spaces both have full courtyard and ocean views. Each is capable of hosting a family of 4 (8 total), has their own en-suite bathrooms, and generously oversized walk-in closets. The master bedroom is complete with a private balcony overlooking the pool, courtyard and ocean, the first floor suite has walk out access to the pool and courtyard areas. The pool courtyard is so very unique. Surrounded by rainforest around us and the ocean slightly below, with occasional families of monkeys in the trees adjacent to us, it is especially inviting from sunup to well past sundown, so much so that it would be possible to have the vacation of your dreams without ever leaving the Casa Hakuna Matata private compound. Add to these the ease of access via a small, quiet street, the excellent restaurant resources of Playa Carrillo, the shopping and additional dining universe of Playa Samara a 10 minute drive away, and the newly constructed private 3rd floor, full ocean view office with 200 MB high speed internet, and Casa Hakuna Matata becomes an unparalleled vacation and/or remote working environment experience. Casa Hakuna Matata is an easy to access 2 minute drive from Playa Carrillo beach, and less than 10 minutes from Playa Samara. Parking is available in the carport, which guests can access through the entry gage via remote control. We are grateful to have Fred be our contact person for our guests. Living just 3 doors down, a US citizen who has lived in Costa Rica for 28 years, he speaks both English and Spanish fluently, he is an especially nice and joyful person, and it is exceptionally aware of all the resources that Playa Carrillo, Samara and Costa Rica have to offer. The location of our home is stunning; only 150 meters from the waters edge, we are the last home at the end of a quiet street slightly elevated above the sparkling waters of Playa Carrillo, a bay on the Pacific Ocean. The neighborhood is very quiet; virtually the only noises you will ever hear, day or night, are the sounds of the tropical birds, monkeys, and the rhythmic, majestic waves of the Pacific Ocean. As private and quiet as our location is, amenities within a 4 minute walk of the beginning of our street (300 meters away) include: ~ Three wonderful restaurants, one of which is an award winning Venezuelan Steak and Seafood restaurant, one specializes in home made pizza and other foods, and the last a menu of native Costa Rican food. There is also a breakfast/lunch diner type restaurant an additional 2 minute walk beyond these restaurants. ~ Two small convenience stores Additional restaurants, grocery and other shopping needs can be found: ~ In Playa Samara, 4 kilometers north of Playa Carrillo. Accessible by car or bus, this 8-10 minute trip opens the door to dozens of different restaurants, 2 grocery stores (Pali and the China store), 2 banks with ATM's, and most any needs or desires you may have on your trip. ~ Leyenda Restaurante, located 2 kilometers inland from Carrillo this wonderful restaurant serves white tablecloth lunch and dinner, and home made pizzas in the evenings in the dining area adjacent to their pools. ~ Estrada, a tiny town 5 kilometers inland from Carrillo, includes a gas station, convenience store, native food diner, and a few other restaurants As Casa Hakuna Matata is located the last home on a small bluff overlooking the beach, the most convenient way to walk to the beach is a 5-ish minute walk via a block stair walkway nestled in the rainforest behind the homes on our street. If you prefer to drive to the beach, the total trip time is 1-2 minutes. For those with rental cars, parking is virtually always plentiful, you may occasionally have to walk an extra minute or two in Samara, and parking is always free in Carrillo and Samara, as well as most places other than San Jose. Flights are most accessible via the Liberia Airport, also located on the Guanacaste peninsula, with drive times of slightly under 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on traffic. Travel time from the San Jose airport generally takes closer to 4.5 hours. Taxi's are easily available at both airports, bus transportation in Costa Rica is also available, buses are clean, and inexpensive (best to buy tickets in advance), and there is a wide selection of rental cars agencies . Many of the common rental agencies are available here; due to the mandatory insurance required in Costa Rica, the WIDELY varying costs the rental agencies charge for the insurance, and the 10+ times we rented cars in Costa Rica, we strongly recommend Adobe, a Costa Rican car rental agency with locations near the Liberia and San Jose airports. They fully disclose their prices, they charge the least for the mandatory insurance, their total all-in rental prices are consistently 25 - 50% less than the other rental agencies, and they speak fluent Spanish and English. We are also grateful to share that Casa Hakuna Matata is family friendly for responsible families. ~ The spacious master bedroom suite, located on the 2nd floor, has among the most stunning views you will ever find. It includes a king sized bed, a day bed with 2 twin sized mattresses, which comfortably sleeps 4 people. It also has its own private bathroom and shower areas, and walk in closet for storage. ~ The 2nd bedroom, which is located on the 1st floor, has beautiful ocean, private access to the courtyard and pool areas, and includes queen and full (matrimonial) sized beds to comfortably sleep 4 people. It also has its own private bathroom and shower areas, and walk in closet for storage. ~ As the pictures show, the living, dining, kitchen, and breakfast nook areas are fully open to one another, and also to the world around us. Each morning we open the double doors to the porch and sunshine from the east, and the entire wall of double glass doors providing access to the pool and incredible views of the ocean to the west. It is almost impossibly to find words to describe the feeling of the entirety of this indoor and outdoor space, including the sounds of nature around us, and the peace and connectedness we feel within us, with those with us, and with the precious and beautiful world around us. ~ Amazing location, and privacy: Casa Hakuna Matata is the closest home to the ocean at the end of a small private street on a slight bluff above the ocean. Surrounded by the nature of rain forest on 3 sides of the home, you can't see a neighbor from our gated property, nor can anyone else see you, and you have a beautiful yard, courtyard pool area, and gazebo area to call your home during the entirety of your stay.
