Description

1BR Nootka Rose Cottage is a charming mix of English and French country décor, with a few modern luxuries to make your visit to Washington State’s heartland a pleasure. Regional attractions are less than 2 hours each way -- wineries, ghost towns, rodeos, antique stores, beaches, high valley back roads. Or curl up with a cozy mystery and a cup of tea. Not suitable for children or the physically challenged. No pets. Discount and late checkout for 2-day bookings. A great girlie getaway! The space Nootka Rose is the middling of my Kokanee Cottages – a sweet one-bedroom Cape Cod. Its main room runs the length of the cottage, with what the English call a snug at one end (a cozy place to hang out by the electric fire and telly), a dining area at the other, and a huge sink-into-chintz couch in the middle. The snug is a great place to lounge and visit, marathon through all Laura Child's Teashop Mysteries, watch DVDs or Netflix on the HD Smart TV, or drool over Pinterest pix on your laptop. Serve tea from the silverplate set on the tea cart, or from one of the many china teapots. Choose from dozens (seriously) of bone china tea cups. Or sip champagne from paper-thin flutes. Straddling the center of the salon is a luxurious chintz couch -- lounge at your own risk, you’ll not be inclined to get up again. In fact, it’s a fine place for a second or third person to spend the night. The galley kitchen has most everything for baking and cooking except actual counter space (expand into the dining area if you’re rolling out pie or cookie dough). Brew a cappucino with the epressso machine, bake scones in the vintage range. The kitchen is also home to the stacked washer/dryer (good for small and medium loads). In the single bedroom, the lovely antique bed frame anchors a deep memory foam mattress and lots of pillows, cotton sheets, and quilts, for super sweet dreams. All the art in the cottage is from thrift stores; the lavish lighting from great deals on Ebay. The wee bathroom, redone from the joists up, ended up sleek and modern with lots of chrome -- and some crystal for extra charm. Nootka Rose Cottage is a delightful surprise hiding inside a house that looks just like the one every child draws. You’ll love to pamper yourself and pour a cuppa in this eclectic English/French country retreat. Guest access You have access to Nootka Rose Cottage (unit 4) and the shed where the smaller BBQ grill and camping/recreational equipment are stored (the bigger grill and deck chairs are stored outside in the summer). The yards between the cottages are shared spaces. There may or may not be guests (or me!) in the other Kokanee Cottages -- Tamarack and Pine Cone (units 1 and 2 duplex), and 2BR small pet-friendly Cottonwood (unit 3) and Saskatoon (unit 5). Lots of parking space in the gravel lot that fronts the cottages. Other things to note COVID 19 PROTOCOL: At Kokanee Cottages, we clean to AirBnB's Covid 19 standards and have a 48-hour buffer between bookings. (If you want to book sooner you can do so at your own risk - send a request.) The cottages provide much better isolation than a large hotel with many guests and staff. No physical contact with host necessary (key are in a coded lockbox). Close to grocery store and (worst case) hospital. Wifi for teleworking. STAY SAFER IN A CUTE COUNTRY COTTAGE. WINTER ALERT: As is typical in very old houses with unheated crawl spaces, if the weather gets below 27 degrees, all the water faucets need to dribble to prevent damage from pipes freezing. Guests booking during winter months MUST be willing to run the faucets (and listen to dribbling water) if there is a cold snap during their stay. -- Cottonwood hosts the modem for the wifi for Tamarack, Pine Cone, and Nootka Rose Cottages. -- Garbage pickup is Thursday morning. -- There is no mail service to the cottages, but the post office is just 6 blocks north and a General Delivery address can be set up for one month.
