Custom-finished room in a semi-secluded area of the house. The basement has a separate outside entrance and walkway so guests can come and go with privacy. The space The room is a large, multi-angled space, in the basement with 3 windows that open to the side yard. Lots of angles, level changes and custom work give the room a unique feel. There is a writing desk with a swing-arm desk lamp, chair, plenty of outlets and excellent high-speed wireless access. 32" flat screen smart TV with cable. The room includes a built in closet with shelves and hanging space. There is a comfy queen-size bed with nightstand, and a full length mirror. The ceilings in the room are regular height, but the ceiling height in the rest of the basement is low, so if you're over 6ft tall, you may feel uncomfortable. The basement (except for the entrance) is newly finished and has new granite counter-top kitchen. Across the hall from the room, is a new walk-in, tiled shower and bathroom (also low ceiling) that is shared with one other room. This room, one of two basement bedrooms, has a separate entrance and only shares the laundry with other guests. The door to the basement is in the back of the house and can be accessed directly by walking through the gate, around the right side of the house along gravel paths. Many guests enjoy the extra privacy this affords. Guest access You are welcome to enjoy the common areas of the basement including the new kitchen with granite counter-top. A comfortable, covered front porch with a couch and a large, covered, bamboo-wrapped back porch keep the sun and rain at bay. You are welcome to spend time in the yard and take advantage of all outside areas as well. Guest have personal storage space in the refrigerator and kitchen shelves--though some guests prefer taking advantage of the delicious food in the neighborhood. The basement also has a living room and a tiled bathroom. Also included is the free use of the washer and dryer which is shared with all guests (including upstairs guests). We have a cleaner who keeps the kitchen, bathrooms, and floors, nice and tidy. The rooms and entire basement have free high-speed (30 Mbps) wireless internet. During your stay You are likely to meet other long-term guests staying in the house. We have occasional group meals (organized by guests) where you'll get a chance to share food and drink with other travelers. This room shares common areas with one other room in the basement. There are usually good opportunities to interact with other guests in the common areas of the house, but it also easy to find privacy. I've had some wonderful people stay here over the years and look forward to meeting many more! Other things to note The bedroom is located below another room and occasionally there is noise that travels through the floor, though this is usually kept to a minimum. There is also a new washer and dryer in the basement that is relatively quiet, but can create some noise. Per Airbnb's standard long-term policy, any changes to the reservation require 30 days notice. All long-term guests are welcome to have extra guests (friends, partners, family) stay with prior approval for $20/night. Pets (dogs) are allowed with pre-approval only and a $100/month pet fee.
