Rapid City is surrounded by beautiful and eventful towns including Alden (less than 5 miles) which offers wine tasting, swimming areas, local grocery store as well as unique shops and restaurants. Bellaire is nearby and offers Shorts Brewery, restaurants. 25 minutes to Traverse City, there you can enjoy beaches, restaurants, casinos, wine tours/vineyards, breweries and shopping. Within 15 minutes you'll have mountain biking trails, cherry orchards, golf courses, and access to Lake Michigan beaches and playground in nearby Elk Rapids.
