Dominated by its dramatic fortress, it offers a wide range of amenities including a playhouse, indoor swimming pool and an excellent array of restaurants, shops, tea rooms and pubs. Take time to visit Barter Books, one of the largest secondhand bookshops in Britain, or discover the magnificent Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland and film location for Harry Potter’s Hogwarts. Alnwick Garden, a spectacular interpretation of a formal garden, has a grand cascade waterfall and poison garden, and guests can dine in the restaurant in the largest tree house in Europe. Less than 3 miles walk along the beach is the picture postcard village of Alnmouth, where a variety of good restaurants, pubs, tea rooms and gift shops for the discerning visitor can be enjoyed.
