Description
Named for its iconic location above the white sands and turquoise waters of Moureeses Bay, The Perch Whananaki is a luxury resort-style destination suited to those who like to sleep just as well on holiday as they do at home. A huge house on over five hectares of land, The Perch is just seven minutes walk through native bush to Whananaki's favourite surf beach. The space Perched above the white sands and turquoise waters of Moureeses Bay, The Perch Whananaki is a spacious coastal retreat with sweeping ocean views, five hectares of native bush, and room for the whole group to unwind. Ideal for extended families, multi-generational stays, and group getaways, The Perch offers privacy, space, and an unforgettable outlook. It feels wonderfully tucked away, while still being just a short drive from one of Whananaki’s favourite surf beaches. Guests often tell us the same thing: the photos don’t do it justice. Architecturally designed to make the most of the sun and spectacular views, the house is set up for easy living in every season. In summer, spend the day at the beach, then come home to the outdoor shower, a cold drink, and the view waiting for you. In cooler weather, the house is warm and comfortable thanks to extra-thick glazing, concrete panel walls, and exceptional insulation. There is plenty of room for larger groups to spread out, with generous shared living spaces as well as quieter corners to read, rest, or take in the view. Enjoy a hot bath overlooking the Poor Knights Islands, curl up in front of the Smart TV, or settle into the second living area with a book. The large entertainer’s kitchen and separate scullery make group cooking easy, whether it’s a long lunch, a family dinner, or a celebratory meal. Dine outside and watch the moon rise over the water. The Perch sits among more than five hectares of regenerating native bush, with birdsong, dark skies, and a real sense of privacy. Listen for kiwi at night, visit the rare pāteke (brown teal ducks) at the pond, and keep an eye out for the resident tuna (giant eels). Depending on the season, guests may also find feijoas, oranges, lemons, limes, and fresh greens in the garden. For children, there is plenty to explore, including a fort, trampoline, and treehouse. For trampers and keen trail runners, there are many beautiful walks nearby. Whananaki is one of Northland’s quieter coastal gems, known for beautiful beaches, surfing, fishing, diving, and laid-back natural beauty. Just 2.5 hours from central Auckland, it is an easy long-weekend escape that feels genuinely away from it all.
