Description

Enjoy open log fires in the sitting room. Eat fresh produce from our farm. Surrounded by Wilkin Flora & Fauna Reserve, famed for native orchids, abundant & rare wildlife. Your horses & dogs are invited to visit. You can walk, fish, canoe, bird, swim and spot platypus! Enjoy eggs from our poultry & produce from our garden. https://goo.gl/maps/h9ZNpEhDz9dvEjs7A The space Tolka Cottage is cosy and comfortable in all seasons. Discreet and private in a quiet location. It is ideal for those who wish to escape from the urban environment, for families, for small groups of friends, for naturalists interested in native flora and fauna and for those who wish to star gaze in our dark night skies. Wake up to native bird song and you may also hear a cockerel or two. The famed Tolka breakfast ingredients, for a great country breakfast, are included for your first morning – fresh Tolka eggs, bacon, tomatoes, fruit, cereal, yoghurt, homemade Tolka jams & bread made by Ivy, filter coffee & a variety of teas. There is a formal sitting room and a more informal sunroom. The bedrooms consist of 3 bedrooms consisting of a queen bed, a double bed & 2 single beds made up with top quality bed linen, continental quilts and towels. In addition, they all have electric blankets for those cool winter nights. There is reverse cycle air conditioning for your comfort. The bathroom has shower & toilet. The laundry has a washing machine & dryer. In addition there is an outside shower & separate toilet. Both bathrooms have good hot water from a gas fired boiler. Tolka Cottage has colour TV, DVD & stereo/CD player, interesting books & games. Guest access You are encouraged to walk around and enjoy the farm at Tolka. The Glenelg River (which flows through the adjacent Wilkin Floral Reserve) runs through the property, the beautiful river valley with its over hanging trees, provides dappled shade for great swimming, canoeing and wildlife watching. It is a lovely spot to enjoy a gourmet picnic hamper, made to order, full of local goodies put together by Ivy. The picnics consist of as much produce from Tolka and its immediate vicinity as possible, depending on tastes and on the season. The farm has a circular track, a mile long, through 60 acres of unspoilt bush, providing easy access to the flora and fauna of this area. Others may prefer to follow one of the many wild animal paths and do a bit of tracking and/or some foraging . There is always the chance of spotting a fallow deer. The Glenelg River provides suitable habitat for one of the most extraordinary creatures on earth - the platypus (an animal that lays eggs). Good time for viewing is around dusk. The Cottage has a dog proof garden and you are welcome to bring your dogs. We also have secure dog pens if you wish to avail of them. Food & water bowls can be provided, if required. Please supply a current vaccination certificate prior to arrival. The Cottage has an outdoor entertaining area with a gas barbeque and, in winter and outside fire restriction periods, guests may light fires for picnics on the property. If you wish to travel to Tolka with your horses, you are welcome to do so. There are horse paddocks, yards and stables all available at no extra cost, during your stay. If you wish to leave your horse here for some days before or afterwards: Horse agistment/boarding facilities can be provided for $15 per day in yards and $20 per day in stable. Horse health certificates for tetanus/strangles & worming must be current and supplied in advance of arrival. Other things to note Tolka Cottage is adjacent to a beautiful billabong, sometimes full of water and sometimes dry depending on the weather. Kangaroos, wallabies, emus, and koalas are regularly seen on the farm. The area is a bird watchers paradise and over 140 species of birds have been seen on Tolka in recent years, including the spectacular endangered red tailed black cockatoo. You may fish on the Glenelg River that runs through Tolka. If you have children, be aware that there are dams, waterholes and billabongs (oxbow lakes), as well as a river, on this property.
