The Perfect Family Escape! The Shearers' Cottage at Takou River is a cosy, private & peaceful retreat set in our stunning 5 acre subtropical gardens moments from the Takou River. North facing & sunny, it has its own relaxing outdoor bath; cosy wood fire; 5 acres of sub-tropical gardens; private jetty, kayaks & fishing rods & deserted sandy beaches a short paddle downstream at Takou Bay. The cottage is nestled in 150 acres of organic farmland, native bush & river front, 20 minutes from Kerikeri. The space The Shearers' Cottage is the perfect family escape; the ideal place for a family looking to escape, relax, unwind and reconnect. The cosy and spacious cottage offers a superb base to explore the wider Bay of Islands, Kerikeri, Russell and Paihia, as well as allowing families to sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and all the amenities on offer at Takou River. Beautifully furnished, the cottage offers peace and privacy; a large master bedroom with en suite bathroom and private deck with romantic outdoor bath; a second queen bedroom, and third bunk bedroom as well as a separate family bathroom and laundry. The cottage has a lovely open plan living area with a cosy wood fire, fully equipped kitchen, ideal for self catering; spacious and private north facing decks and gardens and use of the facilities at Takou River. The Shearers Cottage at Takou River is the perfect destination in itself, ideal for relaxing and basking in the bliss of doing absolutely nothing, or heading out and about to explore the Far North, Kerikeri and wider Bay of Islands area. Guest access In addition to your own peaceful cottage and private claw foot bath on the deck, guests have access to the following amenities at Takou River: our beautiful 5 acre sub-tropical gardens to wander and explore; the tranquil Takou River to swim, fish, paddle and discover; our private boathouse and jetty with kayaks, canoes and fishing rods to borrow at your leisure; our 150 acre organic farm with marked walks along the river, through pastures and native bush to secluded swimming and picnic spots; glow worms and an abundance of native bird life; and last but not least, the deserted sandy beaches a short paddle downstream at Takou Bay. The tariff includes free Starlink WiFi, beautiful linen, fresh flowers, books and magazines, hand made toiletries, gas for the bbq, and free use of the kayaks, canoes and fishing rods. The Shearers' Cottage is private and sole occupancy. We can also arrange an evening in our magical Hot Tub by the river (POA) and booked in advance. Other things to note We usually operate a 2 night minimum stay, although can sometimes accommodate a single night, particularly during the winter or mid week, so please ask! We have a 6-7 night minimum stay over Christmas and New Year periods.
