Description
Gilfach translates from the Welsh as ‘nook’ or ‘hideaway’. This perfectly describes the farm, tucked away in a steep sided valley yet only 5mins drive from the A40. The farm dates back four hundred years. A more recent addition to the farm is a traditional log cabin. Tucked away it affords privacy and fantastic views of the valley. Gilfach is just north of the Brecon Beacons national park and nestling in the folds of the hills. The Cabin has everything you need to enjoy tranquillity and rest. The space The Cabin benefits from all modern comforts to make it a warm and cosy place to snuggle into whatever the weather. The shower room has an electric shower. There is a double bedroom and separate bedroom with full sized bunk beds. There is Freeview TV and WiFi. The double doors in the lounge area open out onto a spacious decking. Gilfach is a traditional Welsh hill farm. There are sixty acres of pasture, ancient woodland, larch plantation and rough bracken and wetland meadows. It is home five British White cows and five horses. Guests are welcome to explore the farm and beyond along the rights of way leading from Gilfach’s land. There are wonderful views of Pen-y-Fan from the top of the farm and a stream flowing along the lower border, there is a mass flora and fauna to see with red kites and buzzards circling up and down the valley. The area’s Dark Sky status and the lack of light pollution makes Gilfach ideal for great stargazing. Guest access The Cabin sits in the main farm complex above the black barn and the horse riding arena. You have your own access and come and go as you please. You can bring your car to park close to the Cabin. During your stay Gilfach is owned and managed by Hugh. The farm has three holiday lets, each entirely self-contained and distinct from each other. Hugh, lives in the main farm house opposite the cottage and works on the farm during the day so is available most of the time and is happy for you to knock on the door if you have any queries or need some help. Other things to note Gilfach is pet-friendly and well-behaved dogs are welcome to stay but are not allowed on sofas or beds! Access to the farm is along an un-surfaced. Please negotiate the track with care. The barn can be used for drying and storage of bikes etc.
