The building in which it is situated was originally a 17th century farmhouse, a true historical home, occupied by the owners family since 1777, and was the home of Master Dyers at the nearby dye works (long demolished), hence its name. Conveniently situated 30metres from the local pub which provides home cooked food of generous portions, and just 10 minutes walk to a small supermarket, food outlets and frequent buses, the cottage is in a residential road with free unrestricted on street parking. Dyer's Cottage offers extremely comfortable self catering accommodation for 1, 2 or 3 adults and a baby in a cot. Children are counted as adults if they sleep in a bed. WE ARE NOT ABLE TO PROVIDE STAIR GATES OR FIRE GUARDS DUE TO THE STRUCTURE/AGE OF THE BUILDING Step through the front door and you will instantly feel the warmth, history and style of this historical home. We hope we have perfectly blended the gorgeous interior design, luxury furnishings and modern amenities, such as a USB port, with the cottage's historical features. Guests will instantly notice the nod to the history of the cottage and the heritage area around it and the previous occupants in times gone by. A spacious living room with high ceilings greets you with an old inglenook fireplace containing a modern gas fired stove occupying pride of place. Relax on the comfy armchair illustrated with local place names or the leather 3 seater sofa which can be extended upon prior request into a sofabed. Overlooking the garden view, with countryside view beyond, is the dining area close to the SMART 50 inch tv with over 100 freeview channels. Bring your Netflix and Amazon Prime log in details and have a chilled evening in in front of the fire. Head through into the delightful light and bright kitchen, fully equipped with all you could need such as ceramic electric hob, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, coffee maker, kettle and more! Steep stone stairs, covered by carpet with an old bannister rail to the left, lead to the first floor landing of this historical home. Please be aware that the top step is irregular but this leads further to the charm of living in a historical home. Upstairs is a light, bright spacious bedroom with a wonderful garden view and a view to the countryside of Calderdale beyond which is best seen from the dream machine of the superking bed (UK 1.80m wide and 2m long) which can also be configured as 2 twins upon prior request. Finished with a cast iron Victorian feature fireplace, two bedside cabinets, reading lights, an antiques chest of drawers, an antique Windsor chair, and a modern wardrobe hidden behind the original restored pine doors: this is a stunning room. Outside on the landing, between the bedroom and bathroom, there is a small desk and chair on the landing. Perfect for home working. The contemporary luxury bathroom with pale grey porcelain wall and floor tiles will not disappoint you! The extra long bath widens at one end to form a shower cubicle with a glass screen with an Aqualisa digital rainshower. In addition there is a handheld shower attachment. The illuminated mirror and shaving socket are above the washbasin which has drawers and matching white gloss cupboards hide the gas central heating boiler and washer/dryer. OUTSIDE Step out through the front door to a delightful sunny garden enclosed to two sides by hedges. This is a private secluded space with a Yorkshire stone patio and stepping stone path which wanders through the gravel with flower borders beyond. An antique wooden bench seat nestles under the window and two reclining chairs enable you to relax and soak in the wonderful garden view and the countryside beyond. During the 19th century, Dyer's Cottage was owned by the Wainhouse family. The distinctive porch can be seen on quite a few local Wainhouse properties and the initials J.E.W. can be seen on our front wall above a former well. John Edward Wainhouse built himself a lovely residence nearby which is now the Grade 11 listed Wainhouse Tavern. He also built the 77m Wainhouse Tower which stands above all the surrounding area and can be seen from miles around, even at night when it is illuminated. On certain days it is open to those who are able to climb nearly 400 steps to the top, from where on a clear day, you can see 50 miles to Blackpool. Other things to note We are not in a National Park although both the Peak District and the Yorkshire Dales NP are about an hours drive. We are not a skiing area. However we are a Historical Home and have Countryside views. Guests may bring a child/infant and we are able to provide a travel cot, a highchair and a few games. It is not structurally possible in a historical home to fit a fire guard or stair gates. The pub nearby occasionally holds music events and serves great home cooked food. During the day there is some traffic noise but it is a 20mph speed area. This is a no smoking property. We do ask that guests take security seriously, leave the cottage neat and tidy on departure and empty the bins into the dustbins outside the back door. Our housekeeper Is invaluable to us and also tells us how tidy the guests have been! Cottage owners do expect their home to be cared for by guests and it is extremely disappointing when this is not the case. Dyer’s Cottage Yorkshire is listed on several booking sites where both you and we have to pay. We support book direct. WE STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT ALL GUESTS TAKE OUT TRAVEL INSURANCE at the time of booking in case of unfortunate eventualities which may occur Guest access My guests have access to the whole historical home and garden area with stunning views over the surrounding countryside. Dyer's Cottage is the perfect relaxing retreat for up to 3 adults. However the loft and cellar are not accessible for health and safety reasons.
