Description
Quiet, cozy cottage in the beautiful Mimbres Valley, located between City of Rocks State Park and Lake Roberts. Sleeps three, or couple with two small children (1 double bed, 1 single). Pet friendly, with large shaded enclosure. Hummingbird haven from April to October. Patio with charcoal grill and a garden for seasonal picking. Fresh eggs from my chickens in the fridge in season. Cell phone service is ok if you put your phone in wifi mode; otherwise, not good. Se habla Español. The space This is a rural area with dark night skies. The casita is located in a small settlement area known to locals as San Juan. It is across from the old San Juan Church, and a short distance from the Mimbres river (the part with water in it!). People who live in this area are farmers, ranchers, foresters, artisans and artists. Many are retired, but many are families who have lived in the Valley for generations. Guest access The casita is all yours while you are here. There is a separate driveway and turn-around area for cars and small trucks. It is set back from the highway, but easily accessible year-round. My house is across the bridge over the arroyo. There is another off grid structure further up on the driveway. It has a telescope that you are welcome to use. Just let me know in daylight hours so we can arrange it. Other things to note I will have some items (especially breakfast)in the fridge for you, but the nearest real grocery stores are in Deming and Silver City. There are two local eating establishments and one place to get gasoline. There are lots of hiking trails however, and the light is always spectacular. Our proximity to the river provides a habitat for abundant wildlife. We are located at about 6,000 feet elevation. The website New Mexico Wild has a hiking guide for the entire state, and you can access it to plan hikes before you arrive. I have a free range border collie who loves to greet guests. If you would rather not be greeted by a big friendly noisy dog, coordinate your arrival time with me so that I can keep her inside.
