The space The apartment overlooks a leafy garden, a real rarity in the center of this historic town. Evoking the famous opera house that once stood on the Carré d'Art site, the apartment is decorated in an elegant "operatic" style. Bright and airy, within minutes of the "Fontaine Gardens", the wonderful 365 day a year food market, the "Maison Carré" Roman temple and a wealth of restaurants for al fresco dining, "Diva-Nimes" is just perfect for getting a real feel for this unique Roman town — and pampering yourself in an opulent ambiance. The "Margot & Rudolph" bedroom pays homage to Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev. The famous couple is depicted in a large classic monochrome photograph high above the antique brass bedstead. Nothing antique about the mattress though. This bed is the firmest of all at Diva-Nîmes, for those who sleep best when they have a little more support... This room features a carved cupboard with a long memory and a (more modern) dressing table, plus several posters of well-known ballets including Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty (ideal for a bedroom of course). This room overlooks the same pedestrian street, garden and chestnut tree as the "Puccini" room... Oh yes, and there are a pair of ballet shoes and tutu hanging on the foot of the bed - guaranteed to make 5 and 6-year-old girls squeal with delight. Guaranteed! Another feature everyone appreciates is the 4m high ceiling (also found in all the other rooms throughout the apartment) which give a very pleasant feeling of "roominess" we can rarely enjoy in modern homes. The "Puccini" Bedroom - This room puts you in a "Puccini" state of mind with various "souvenirs" of the Maestro, the operas he wrote and a number of fake-authentic features to give the room an original touch. The "Pinkerton" desk for example. Pinkerton, a US Navy officer, is the villain who marries the innocent Madame Butterfly for his "amusement" while he is stationed in Japan. When his tour of duty ends, he leaves, not knowing his wife is expecting their child... He returns a few years later, with his American wide, to "collect" the young boy. A number of Pinkerton's "souvenirs" are displayed on the wall behind the desk. These include two Japanese miniatures, photos of Pinkerton's ship, his fellow crew members, his telephone and - in the very worst taste - a photograph of his American wife wearing a kimono! How low can you get? Needless to say, you don't have to be an opera fan to enjoy this bedroom. But you are certain to appreciate the roominess of the Queen Size bed and the fact that the window overlooks a pedestrian street and walled garden with a magnificent chestnut tree. Right in the middle of town! A very rare privilege. The "Carmen" bedroom offers twin beds (2 metres long) and, of course, all sorts of reminders that Nîmes is a town with a strong Spanish flavour. There are several posters for various productions of the opera - and even a Spanish guitar - on the walls. One is almost entirely taken up by a huge floor to ceiling wallpaper poster of the Plaza de España in Seville - reflected in the mirror over the fireplace making a delightful "trompe l'oeil" effect... This room does not overlook the garden and the chestnut tree - but it does happen to be the quietest room if ever you come to Diva-Nîmes at "Féria" time. It also has a balcony overlooking an interior courtyard where you can sit outside on warm summer nights... (Good place for smokers too!). There are several posters for various productions of the opera - and even a Spanish guitar - on the walls. One is almost entirely taken up by a huge floor to ceiling wallpaper poster of the Plaza de España in Seville - reflected in the mirror over the fireplace making a delightful "trompe l'oeil" effect... This room does not overlook the garden and the chestnut tree - but it does happen to be the quietest room if ever you come to Diva-Nîmes at "Féria" time. Guest access Guests have a flatscreen HDTV with high quality sound at their disposal and a vast choice of TV stations. There is also a Blu-Ray player and an extensive DVD library (including operas and ballets!). Highspeed broadband internet and WiFi are available. An internet radio is also on hand so you can hear your favourite radio stations from back home and keep up with all your local news. You can also plug in your iPod or iPhone to hear your own music...
