Special features of the garage, right side: • the wooden partitions were used to separate the cows • the small openings made it possible to pass the hay or to monitor the animals • the metal latches were used to close the stalls • the dark wood often comes from years of animal presence (heat, humidity, manure) In the local dialect (Franche-Comté / Jura / nearby Switzerland), "bérailles" often referred to: → the place for the animals → the old barn → or simply the animal corner.
