Lake house at Skälsnäs Mansion in Småland

On a peninsula of the famous Lake Helga in Småland, with a rich fish population, forests and an abundance of animals, we rent out a lake house directly on the lake. Horses and sheep graze on the property, which was once owned by Gustav Wasa. Dogs (max. 2) are welcome, at a cost of € 12 per dog/night. A boat (4.5 hp motor) can be hired for €50/day including fuel. You can also rent our ‘Guesthouse’ (see there) and ‘Brygghus’ (see there), both with lake view. The space The special thing about the lake house: the fantastic location! Directly on the lake, no roads or car traffic, absolute peace and quiet in beautiful nature, surrounded by a nature reserve with old trees, which the owners of Skälsnäs have made available to the province. In the evening, watching the sunset on the terrace over the water - and above all enjoying the peace and quiet - is something very special! Furthermore, the observation of bird life, foxes and deer, and sometimes moose come into view on the peninsula or even in the lake (see photo). Also worth mentioning are the fishing and water sports opportunities offered by the mapped Lake Helga, with its rich fish population. And yet there is the possibility to reach everything important in close proximity, shopping centres, golf courses, sightseeing, children's fun (Småland is the home of Astrid Lindgren - Pippi, Michel, Ronja etc.!). The lake house has 2 floors, a living area with kitchenette, veranda un dining area, fireplace, a large sauna with lake view, shower, separate toilet, and on the 1st floor 2 king-size beds. Next to the lake house is a cottage with barbecue, cushions for the garden furniture, etc. Guest access You have access to the whole house and the large terrace to yourself. Other things to note On Skälsnäs, you are surrounded by nature - the lake, the forest and the animal world (especially birds). Our 100-hectare peninsula offers everything which a nature fan could desire. You may angle/fish anywhere around the whole Skälsnäs peninsula. The waters (380 hectare) and thereby the fishing right belong to us. This is just the place for all those wishing to turn their backs on everyday stress and discover the joys of nature with its many animals, waters and forests. At Skälsnäs you can cherry pick from the choice of experiences in Småland. You can make day trips to explore nature and culture in the landscape. Stay a week or longer, have saunas, do a lot of fishing, rent a canoe, explore Sweden's most southern lock in Åby with the other lakes and channels, take a ride with the old steamboat Thor from 1887. Fishing-Waters We owe 380 ha fishing-waters around the peninsula Skälsnäs in the northern part of Helgasjön. The fishing permit for hand tackle, which you can buy, allows you to fish in all of Helgasjön, which is part of the stream Mörrumsån´s water system and is Smålands second largest lake after Åsnen. The lake has 55 km² varied fishing-waters. The lake is filled from wells and swamps in the southern part of the highlands in Småland. The water is of high quality. The lake is rather deep, especially in the northern part, with depths down to 26 m. Coniferous- and deciduous-forests reach all the way down to the lake shores. Fish There are plenty of perch and lots of pike as well as zander in Helgasjön. Otherwise there are . Bream, tench, roach, eel, burbot and bleak are also common species. There are also some brown trout, although rather rare. Fishing In the winter you can jig for perch and pike from the ice or with special tackle, the old traditional way. Catching burbot can also be exciting in the winter. When the ice melts spin-fishing season for pike starts and is best during spring and autumn. During all of the boat season trolling for zander, pike and perch, and perhaps a brown trout, is very good. Pearch, bream, roach and bleak are preferably caught with an angle rod. Fishing rules The fishing permit allows fishing in all of Helgasjön. The minimum measure for pike, brown trout and zander is 40 cm. There are fishing restrictions for some especially sensitive areas. You are allowed to fish for zander in June-September.
