Description

This outport (rural) home, located an hour outside St. John's, is close to some of North America's oldest historic communities including Brigus, Cupids, Harbour Grace, and Carbonear. Explore the many walking trails, or some of the local museums. Take a dip in the near-by pond, have a drink and a nosh at the Newfoundland Distillery, or light up the barbecue on the back deck and enjoy the scenery. The space Built around 1910, this house is one of the oldest homes in the community. It has been carefully renovated with an eye to retaining its original character and warmth while making it functional with some more contemporary features. The kitchen has a fridge, stove, oven, microwave, Keurig coffee maker, drip coffee maker, and a toaster. There is also a smart speaker to answer your questions, update you with the news, or serenade you with music. The first bedroom has a queen-sized futon that can be folded up to make it into a sitting room. There are TVs in the living room and one of the bedrooms. Although there is no live TV, they do access Netflix, and Roku channels. The washroom (toilet, sink, and shower) is on the ground floor by the back porch. There are two rooms upstairs: a bedroom with a double bed and a bedroom/den with a queen size futon that sleeps two. The large back deck overlooks Clarke's Mountain and is accented with a gazebo. In the deck box you will find folding chairs. There is also a fire pit on the side garden. If you go left on railbed at the back of the property, it will take you to Clarke's Beach Information Centre (museum) in the old station. A little farther down there is a children's playground and paddling beach at the community park. This is perfect for a place to relax, or a use as a base camp for day trips from which to explore a beautiful and historic part of our province. Guest access Guests have access to the whole house. Other things to note The old Newfoundland railway trail runs behind the property, and while it's popular with quad and trike riders, it can sometimes be noisy. The staircase is on a 45-degree pitch and is 22 inches wide. Something to be aware of if you have mobility issues or difficulty climbing stairs. There is a shower, but at 32"x32" and 6'3" large or tall people may feel cramped. Pet Policy: We don’t generally allow pets at the B&B, just to keep things comfortable and allergy-friendly for all our guests. That said, we do make exceptions for certified service animals. If you’re travelling with one, or if there’s a specific situation you’d like to check in about, just let us know what kind of animal it is and we’ll see what’s possible.
