Highlands Cabin Unplugged!
Only 7 minutes driving distance to downtown Highlands, this semi-rustic, unique cabin offers a two-sided, 2nd floor sleeping loft with 1 queen and 2 twin beds. There's also an upstairs deck just off this loft to sit and stargaze at night! Comfy living and dining area on 1st floor, as well as a small, fully equipped kitchen. Close by are scores of waterfalls, hiking areas, restaurants, shopping and lots of local music events! This Semi-Rustic re-do of an old country store that just happened to be built like a barn, is a wonderful, reasonably priced place to stay in the Highlands/Cashiers area. It's full of warm tongue & groove wood throughout, with exposed rafters in the downstairs living area. Every weekend for the past two years was spent turning this interesting building into a great vacation space. (And it's still a work in progress! I continue to add improvements!) It offers a small, fully equipped kitchen. The sleeping area is an upstairs two-sided sleeping loft with a queen and two twin beds. Children love it! There's also an upper deck right off the loft, which several guests have told me they love to sit at night and look for constellations. On a clear night, the stars seem so close! The dining area has a good size farm table - perfect for playing games on! There is currently no wi-fi or satellite tv on purpose! This is such a beautiful area to get outdoors! There is so much to enjoy! I love hearing the stories of families leaving the devices off for awhile and actually talking and laughing and playing Monopoly together! You know, the way things used to be. However, if you need to get online, there are plenty of wi-fi friendly places in Highlands and Cashiers. And, if it gets a little too quiet at night, there are scores of movies to watch. And best of all is the location! Though it's in a country setting, it is on a main, paved road that is just seven minutes from downtown Highlands. It is close to many area waterfalls, scenic views and hiking trails (Yellow Mountain hiking trail is just 1/4 mile from the cabin!). It's also just minutes from Cashiers and Franklin, NC where the restaurants and shopping are top notch. Also, within an hour, you can be in Cherokee, Maggie Valley, Brevard or Clayton, GA. And Atlanta is just a two-hour drive! Great to get out of the heat! Entire cabin (excluding unfinished basement) I'm just a text away! Just minutes from downtown Highlands and around the corner from Yellow Mountain Hiking Trail (a day-long hike), the cabin is conveniently located on a paved road in a country setting. The neighborhood is a typical North Carolina mix of old and new - with forest, Rhododendron and Mountain Laurel everywhere. Public transportation not available In this age of 24/7/365 "connectedness" - please be aware that there is currently no wi-fi or satellite tv. Take a break from the devices for a few days and breathe this beautiful mountain air! (If you absolutely have to get online, just head to the Ugly Dog Pub or other restaurants offering wi-fi in Highlands or Cashiers.) If it gets too quiet for you in the evenings at the cabin, there's lots of movies, books, games and stargazing available!
